The settlement is located at an altitude of 620 meters above sea level, within the Chornohora mountain range, which includes the famous Hoverla, Petros, and Pip Ivan Chornohirskyi. One of the fastest Carpathian rivers, the Chornyi Cheremosh, flows through Verkhovyna, so in the summer, it is definitely worth trying to descend the river by kayak or inflatable boats.
But the main thing is not to forget to climb at least one of the famous mountain peaks. The indescribable pleasure when you, out of breath and all sweaty, gulp the cool air at the very top, shrouded in thick fog. It is also good to roast a whole lamb on a spit by the river, as the locals do.
Cultural enthusiasts can visit the Museum of Hutsul Life and Folk Instruments, head to the Dovbush Rocks, or visit the filming locations of the movie “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors.”
A famous climatic resort located in the upper reaches of the Prut River, on the northern slopes of the wooded Carpathians. It is from Vorokhta that those planning to ascend the highest peak of the Ukrainian Carpathians, Hoverla, usually begin their journey.
The warm season in Vorokhta means long hikes, swimming, and rafting on the mountain river, climbing rocks, and gathering medicinal plants.
In the village, there is a monument of wooden Hutsul architecture from the 17th century – the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. An interesting object is also the arched railway bridges (viaducts) built here in the 19th century.
This village is home to the only farm in Ukraine that breeds Manchurian deer. These beautiful noble animals were delivered here by helicopter all the way from the Kaliningrad region.
But the most important thing that Iza is known for is that the village is a center of wicker art. Nowhere else will you see such a variety of wickerwork. Just take a walk down the village's main street – and you will be amazed by the skill of Ukrainians weaving impressive items from wicker.
There is also a unique monastery in Iza, where the relics of St. Alexius of the Carpathians are kept.
One of the largest villages by population and area not only in Ukraine but also in Europe. It is enough to say that there are seven general education schools and an art school in Kosmach.
The legendary leader of the opryshky, Oleksa Dovbush, died in the village, and here is opened the museum of Oleksa Dovbush. Also, in the winter of 1944-1945, there were nineteen hundred UPA soldiers stationed in Kosmach. In 1944, the Kosmach Independent Republic was proclaimed. Therefore, this village has the reputation of the “Banderite capital.” However, the locals are not very fond of recalling the insurgent past, preferring to talk about the present of the village.
Today, there are several hundred masters of decorative and applied arts working in Kosmach, a historical and local lore museum. In addition, the village hosted the “Kosmach Easter” festival.
This unique village has one custom that is not found anywhere else in Ukraine. But to see the famous Krasnoyilsk Malanka, you will have to wait for the Christmas holidays.
The loud festivities in Krasnoyilsk begin early in the morning – disguised malankars go from house to house. In each yard, they demand money from the host for singing and dancing, but this does not save him from playful punches.
After the participants visit all the households and congratulate the hosts on the New Year, a large carnival procession gathers on the main street, with about a thousand villagers participating.
Traditionally, this event attracts many tourists. Those who are here for the first time admit – although they have seen pictures of Malanka, seeing it live is impressive.
The village is known for being the filming location of the movie “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors” by Serhiy Paradzhanov. The house where the filming took place is now a museum. Also, in the village, Mikhail Hrushevsky spent summers in the “summer residence,” and many prominent Ukrainians of the 19th-20th centuries loved to vacation here, so several other museums operate here.
A settlement located in the Khust district of the Zakarpattia region. It is known for several high-quality cheese factories created by several foreign participants of the eco-cooperative “Longo Mai,” as well as by Ukrainian Petro Pryhara.
In addition, in Nizhnie Selyshche today, buffaloes are grazed, and nearby is the famous Dolina Narcisiv.
A settlement on the right bank of the Tysa River, better known as a health resort. Its main wealth is a huge salt deposit – approximately 3.5 billion tons.
The highlight of Solotvyno is its unique salt lakes. The water in them is very salty and beneficial for treating diseases of the nervous system, radiculitis, pleurisy, arthritis, and skin diseases. Therefore, many tourists come here just to lie in this “brine.”
In addition to the lakes, Solotvyno has equally famous salt mines, where people come to treat various respiratory diseases. There are many hotels, recreation centers, and sanatoriums here.
A village in the Mukachevo district of the Zakarpattia region, which got its name from the color of the mineral hydrogen sulfide water that springs from the ground here almost everywhere. Baths with the sour-tasting “synyak” are the best remedy for diseases of the musculoskeletal system, bone and muscle, and nervous system.
A well-known center of Hutsul folk decorative and applied arts. Yavoriv has long been famous for its folk craftsmen and is a center for such crafts as bedding and wood carving.
In Yavoriv lived and worked the founders of Hutsul flat wood carving, the Shkriblyaks, and their successors, the Korpanuyks, including Korpanuyk Yuriy Ivanovych.
