Museum of Hutsul life, ethnography and musical instruments by Roman Kumlyk
The Roman Kumlyk Museum of Hutsul Life, Ethnography, and Musical Instruments is a private museum in the village of Verkhovyna, Ivano-Frankivsk region. The museum was organized by ethnographer and musician Roman Kumlyk (1948-2014). The Roman Kumlyk Museum is located in his own two-story house. The exposition occupies two small rooms.
The museum was organized in the early 2000s. The materials have been collected over 30 years: household items, ancient Hutsul clothing, tools, banknotes of different times, and much more, which gives an idea of the life of the Hutsuls. The collection of musical instruments is particularly noteworthy, including violins (including long-bowed violins and a rectangular violin), cymbals, goats, drymbas, trembitas, horns, and others.
Roman Kumlyk personally conducted tours and played various instruments, and he also told about each of the instruments. In the museum, visitors will learn about the life of the Hutsuls, the wedding ceremony and peculiarities of family life, about forestry and rafting (the work of bokorash), etc.
