886 m Mount of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, Rybnyk

The Mount of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred (locally Konova or Horb) is an 886 m summit (890 m according to other data) in the Skole Beskids. It lies in the Drohobych district of Lviv Oblast between the villages of Rybnyk, Dovhe and Maidan, close to the Stryi river. Until 2020 it was the highest point of the Drohobych district.

It is in fact a detached mountain with several tops: besides the main one there are Horodok (872 m) and Vysoka (827 m). To the south-east it merges into the Sopitski Polonyny ridge, near its summit Shchavyna (1,036 m). The upper “cap” of the mountain is a steep cone with slopes of about 55 degrees that ends in an almost level top. The western and south-western slopes belong to the Skole Beskids National Nature Park.

How to get there

There is no waymarked route to this mountain on our site yet. The closest villages are Rybnyk (about 2 km as the crow flies) and Maidan. Every autumn the Way of the Cross from the village of Dovhe goes up the mountain, the path used by pilgrims. Because of the steep upper section, allow extra time for the last part of the climb.

Water, shelter and safety

Our map shows no springs or huts near the summit, so carry your own water and stay overnight in the surrounding villages. The summit cone is very steep and easy to slip on in rain or ice; wear boots with good grip and take the descent slowly. Follow the national park rules. In an emergency call 112 or 101; contacts of the nearest units are on our mountain rescue page.
