The Yaremche Carpathian region with its center in Yaremche, a city of regional subordination, is located in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. The Prut River is the main waterway of the Yaremche region, which is located on the Ivano-Frankivsk-Rakhiv-Uzhhorod highway, and the railway connects the city with the main gateways of the Carpathians - Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv, Ternopil and Kyiv.

In 1977, Yaremche was granted the status of a city of regional subordination and the following villages were added to its boundaries: Vorokhta, Tatariv, Mykulychyn, Yablunytsia, Voronenko, and Polianytsia. Therefore, the entire territory of the city of Yaremche with its subordinate settlements is called the territory of the Yaremche City Council. About 50% of the territory of Yaremche City Council - 31 thousand hectares - is located in the Carpathian National Nature Park (CNNP), which was established in 1980 and was the first in Ukraine. The park is unique for its natural landscapes with a rich gene pool, rare virgin forest ecosystems and recreational potential.

Its tourist features include river rapids, hydrogen sulfide springs, caves, rocks, many picturesque crystal clear waterfalls and other interesting natural formations. The territory of the Yaremche City Council borders Verkhovyna, Nadvirna and Kosiv districts.

During the winter season, the Carpathians are open to skiing enthusiasts from both Ukraine and abroad. Every year, the number of tourists in the Carpathians is increasing due to the improvement of the tourist infrastructure: new tourist complexes and recreation centers are growing, the number of offers in the private sector is growing, new ski lifts are being launched and the issue of tourist transportation is being resolved.

The Yaremche region is the most attractive for investors today, and they are the ones who are developing the region's tourism infrastructure. In particular, the main investment projects (completion of a new alternative highway; construction of new ski lifts; increase in the total length of the slopes; expansion of the hotel base and infrastructure) aimed at developing tourism in the region include further development of the world-class ski resort Bukovel and the creation of a "Lace Park" in Yaremche.

Vacationing in the Carpathians is not only about skiing, but in summer it is equally beautiful and interesting. Ivan Franko, Lesya Ukrainka, Mykhailo Hrushevsky, Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky, and Vasyl Stefanyk, who were very fond of hiking and horseback riding excursions, once preferred summer vacations in the Carpathians.

Today, tourists are also offered bicycle and car tours along mountain routes. The purpose of any excursion is to learn about and experience the natural resources of the region, the way of life, customs and rituals of the local population. There is an opportunity to take part in local events and celebrations. The population of the region has preserved folk customs and rituals, the most interesting of which are the Hutsul "Raskoliada", St. Andrew's Evenings, Epiphany, and the Hutsul Berehynia (Hutsul Beregynia) Midsummer holiday.

The most active hiking routes today are to Hoverla, along the Dovbush trails, to Mount Hamster and Mount Pip Ivan (Chornohora). Interesting sites in Yaremche include the Metropolitan Sheptytsky Museum, the Museum of Ecology and Ethnography of the Carpathian Region, the Ukrainian Antiquities Museum, the monasteries of St. Elijah the Prophet and St. Andrew, and the ecotourism visitor center.

Nature, geography and terrain

Yaremche and the region are located in a hollow of mountains, within the Gorgany (mountains with asymmetrical slopes and sharp mountain crests). The relief of the region was formed over a long period of time: about 35 million years ago, the Tennys Ocean was located in this area. Sand, clay, and limestone layered on the ocean floor, which, after the water receded, fossilized and formed modern mountains under the influence of natural external factors.

Rivers, waterfalls and springs

The main river that flows through the Yaremche region is the Prut. The river's sources begin on the northern slopes of Chornohora at an altitude of over 1750 meters above sea level. The main tributaries of the Prut are the Prutets Yablunytskyi, Zhonka Kamianka, Piga, Prutets Chemehivskyi, and Homulets. Every year, international and national rafting competitions and amateur kayaking trips are held on the Prut River.

There are 3 waterfalls in Yaremche region:

  • The largest waterfall on the Prut River is "Huk", which is located in the reserve near the village of Mykulychyn.
  • The Probiy waterfall on the Prut River is located on the territory of the second souvenir market. The waterfall falls in a cascade.
  • On the Prut River, the Chemihivskyi waterfall "Kaplyvets" falls near Mykulychyn.

There are many sources of mineral water here, including chloride, carbon dioxide, sulfate, and hydrocarbonate mineral waters such as Borjomi, Narzan, Essentuki, and Arzni. Carbon dioxide sodium and calcium bicarbonate waters, the so-called "Burkuty", are especially famous. The region is rich in other such springs:

  • Vorokhtyanske PODV, quadrant 10
  • Yamnyanske PODV, spring
  • Tatarivske PONDS, spring, recreational area "Rebrovach" (Vorokhta)
  • Spring near the town of Pozhyzhevsk
  • Spring, recreational area "Hoverla"
  • Spring, recreational area "Rebrovach" (Vorokhta village)
  • Yaremche PONDS (estate)
  • Source, Yamna (near the highway)

Organization of recreation

In the Yaremche region, a good vacation can be planned and organized at any time of the year. After all, the nature of the Carpathians is unique at every time - from spring to autumn, from autumn to spring. It is in the spring-summer and summer-autumn periods that you can have an equally interesting and useful vacation in the Carpathians as in winter. In the warm season, the Carpathians are full of medicinal herbs, berries and mushrooms, and a cold mountain river adds freshness on hot days. In addition, you can choose any kind of outdoor activity: cycling, ATV or horseback riding, hiking in the mountains or a tour of the area, as this opportunity is best in the Carpathians.

Skiing is undoubtedly the most popular winter activity. In the Carpathians, in particular in the Yaremche region, this type of active recreation ranks first and can be called the center of skiing. The region is home to the most famous ski resort, Bukovel.

The Yaremche region has a large number of restaurants that will be happy to serve guests of the region. Here is a list of them, organized by settlement.

Cuisine

Hutsul cuisine is surprisingly tasty and quite simple, but the cooking method has its own secrets and peculiarities. The Hutsuls used such products as corn flour and cereals, potatoes, mushrooms, and sheep's milk products. The most common Hutsul dishes are banosh (sheep sour cream and cornmeal), mushroom soup (dry porcini mushrooms boiled in chicken broth), and brynza (sheep's milk cheese), rosivnytsia (a decoction of pork and sauerkraut thickened with corn grits), knysh (buns stuffed with boiled potatoes or brynza), shpenia (a dish made from beans).

Residents of the Yaremche region will pleasantly surprise you with their hospitality, hard work, and friendliness. That is why, in combination with historical monuments and excellent recreational resources, they integrally complement the beauty of the Yaremche region.
