Dovbush trail in Yaremche
In the Ukrainian Carpathians, there are many sites named after the leader of the Oprishka, Oleksa Dovbush: Dovbush Rocks, Dovbush Stone, Dovbush Cave. There is an interesting tourist attraction near the Carpathian city of Yaremche called the Dovbush Trail. If you are looking for a not too long, but very interesting route, the Dovbush Trail near Yaremche is perfect. It is located within the Carpathian National Nature Park.
The length of the trail is 4 km, the duration of the transition is 4 hours, and the altitude is 570-800 meters above sea level.
The Dovbush Trail artistic and memorial complex was created in the places associated with the name of the leader of the Carpathian opryshky, Oleksa Dovbush. The route begins in the protected tract "Drybka" of the Yamnianskyi PONDS (Yaremche), not far from the Dovbush stone, runs between the rocks and goes to the Horhan Zaprutskyi ridge. You can complete this route in about 4 hours. Along the entire trail you will come across thematic sculptures by Darii Hrabar. In addition to stone sculptures, there are information stands along the route. The trail passes through the places where the brothers of the famous O. Dovbush acted in 1738-1745. In the chronicle of the history of the Ukrainian people, the Galician opryshkivshchyna became a bright page in the struggle against social and national enslavement. The name of O. Dovbush was mentioned alongside the well-known names of the heroes of the Ukrainian people U. Karmeliuk and L. Kobylitsa.
This area is located on the right bank of the Prut River. The Yamnenska sandstones, which are widespread here, narrow the valley and cause steep slopes. It is here that a picturesque view of the Prut canyon and the village of Yamna opens up. We are surrounded by a mixed forest, where beech-fir and spruce phytocoenoses grow. The main species are forest beech, spruce, and white fir. On the right side, there is a unique growth of common hornbeam. This is the upper limit of the hornbeam's range - 500 meters above sea level. Of particular interest is the relict pine, the oldest of all species, a sensitive indicator of air purity. Along the trail, raspberry and blackberry bushes can be seen on the left and right, and blueberries are common at the end of the route.
The animal world is rich and diverse. Here you can see a nimble and viviparous lizard, a common viper. Among the birds, there are variegated woodpeckers, yellowhammers, jays, pine nuthatches, and hazel grouse. Mammals include roe deer, wild boar, fox, badger, and ferret. Rodents are represented by the Carpathian squirrel, dormice (walnut and forest), yellow-throated mouse, and red mole.
Although the Dovbush Trail forms a ring, it is not necessary to go down to the starting point. You can finish your walk near the Probiy waterfall or the souvenir market in Yaremche. Don't worry, you won't get lost, because tourists have trodden good paths to them.
The Dovbush Stone, shrouded in legends, attracts special attention. This stone is located near the highway.
Climbing the trail, you will come to the local Dovbush Rocks (not to be confused with the Dovbush Rocks in Bubnyshche). It was here that Oleksa Dovbush's units hid from Polish units. There are several observation decks near the rocks, offering breathtaking views of the Carpathians! And if you want to continue the walk and see more, you can climb Mount Makovytsia (the path to it will be shown by a signpost that stands near the rocks).
However, the most interesting place on the Dovbush Trail is the caves, one of which, according to legend, has a chest with Dovbush's gold hidden in it. The entrance to the cave can be seen only once a year - on the night of Ivan Kupala. However, you still won't be able to take possession of it: the treasures are enchanted, and the one who takes the treasure out of the cave will be petrified instantly as soon as the gold glistens in the moonlight.
Walking along the Dovbush Trail, you will get a charge of positive emotions and hear a lot of information about the deeds of the Hutsul Robin Hood Oleksa Dovbush. The route starts in Yaremche on Svobody Street (there is a large wooden signpost by the road).
Entrance to the territory of the artistic and educational complex is paid.
The route is marked. The color of the mark is horizontal white stripes with a green stripe in the center. The trail is equipped with small architectural forms.
