Museum of oil fields in Galicia, Pniv

An interesting museum of oilfields in Galicia appeared in the village of Pniv a few years ago. It was created based on the extensive history of oil production in the region, which has been the central industrial sector since the mid-18th century.

The Museum of Oilfields of Galicia was opened in 2013 thanks to local activists who united in the NGO "Institute of History of Nadvirna Oilfield District" and began searching for the museum's contents. They had to not only work in the archives, but also make expeditions to the places where oil was extracted, search for exhibits at oil refineries, and restore lost samples of inventory based on original drawings and photographs. Thanks to their efforts, an interesting and not quite traditional open-air museum was opened.

The museum exposition is divided into two parts: indoors, you will see rare photos and documents of that era, models of oil installations, and a collection of kerosene lamps. You will see samples of oil and oil products. The exposition in the museum yard will enhance your impressions of what you have seen and heard.

The museum is open on the territory of the modern Nadvirna Oil and Gas Training Complex, which trains specialists in oil production, refining and oil products. The exposition will tell the story of the long history of the oil field development on these lands. The exhibition is full of eloquent photographs, archival documents, books and textbooks on the theory of oil production. The gallery also has unusual models with drilling and processing equipment reduced by several times. The entire inventory clearly demonstrates the evolution of Galician technology and the scale of enterprises dealing with petroleum products.

The open-air exhibits located in the museum's courtyard are particularly noteworthy. The most interesting examples of production rigs are presented here, collected in chronological order from 1771 to the last decades.
