Luzhky

Luzhky is a village in the Dolyna district of Ivano-Frankivsk region. The village of Luzhky is located on mountain meadows at the extreme point of the Dolyna region on the way from Hoshiv through Vytvytia, Stankivtsi, and Sloboda Bolekhivska. Here, the Luzhanka River flows from mountain springs, which flows into the Svicha River behind Hoshiv. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1672. In 1939, 460 inhabitants lived in the village (440 Ukrainians, 5 Poles, 15 Jews). The villagers supported the struggle of the OUN-UPA against the Moscow invaders.

Luzhky has a direct bus service to the district center of Dolyna.

On December 4, 2016, Archbishop and Metropolitan of Ivano-Frankivsk Volodymyr Viytyshyn consecrated the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a memorial plaque to Fr. Yaroslav Lesiv, one of the active members of the Ukrainian National Front of the Ukrainian Helsinki Union, poet, and priest of the Greek Catholic Church, was born in Luzhky.

The first church of St. Michael was built in the Bereh tract in 1730. It apparently burned down. An inscription in Latin on the bell tower states that the current church was built in July 1938. After 1946 the Bolsheviks closed the church, and in 1983 it was looted and turned into a warehouse. In 1986, the community succeeded in reopening the church.

In 1941, the Riflemen's Grave was filled in, which was destroyed by the Bolsheviks in 1946, and in 1989 the symbolic grave was restored and consecrated. Behind the village in the Maryna tract, there was a partisan hospital that was discovered and destroyed by the NKVD. A chapel has now been built at the site, and every August, residents of Luzhky and the surrounding villages come to honor the memory of the fallen heroes. There is a mass grave in the Myhla tract where 11 UPA soldiers are buried.

The village has a secondary school of the first level, a paramedic and obstetric station, 2 shops, a club, and the Church of St. Michael the Archangel.
