The legend of the village's founding was recorded and published in 1879 by the village's parish priest Spyridon Martynkevych and a well-known public figure Venedikt Ploshchanskyi. They claim that the name of the village comes from the word "vitka" - a willow swamp that densely overgrew the territory of the present-day village. The first written mention of Vytvitsa dates back to August 31, 1397. Documents have been preserved that Vytvytsia was a settlement of free (privileged) people.
In 1824, the community built a wooden church of St. John the Baptist in the center of the village, which is an architectural monument. The center of cultural and educational life was the Prosvita reading room, founded in the early twentieth century by the priest Mykola Derlytsia. All the work of the reading room was aimed at raising the national consciousness of the population. In 1939, the village was home to 1690 residents (1640 Ukrainians, 20 Poles, 10 Latins, and 20 Jews). The population in 2018 is 1225 people.
One of the founders of the Ukrainian National Front, a member of the Helsinki Union of Ukraine, a long-term political prisoner, poet Zenoviy Krasivsky was born, lived, and fought against the Bolsheviks in Vytvytska, and the village community erected a monument to him. In September 1991, the village museum was opened in the village council building, where expositions on the history of the village were created. In the first years of independence, the symbolic grave of the "Fighters for the Freedom of Ukraine" was restored, and in 1997 a memorial sign was erected to mark the 600th anniversary of the village's foundation.
