Convent of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Sisters of the Holy Family, Hoshiv

The Greek Catholic convent of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Sisters of the Holy Family is located in the south of the village of Hoshiv, in a picturesque corner of Prykarpattia. It was here, at the foot of the Holy Virgin, that the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family was born. Consecrated persons, priests, and lay people come here for retreats; ATO soldiers undergo spiritual rehabilitation. The sisters do their best to make those who stay in the monastery feel comfortable. In summer, children come here for camps. The nuns catechize at schools in Bolekhiv and Broshniv, preparing children for their First Confession and Solemn Communion.

History of the Nativity of the Virgin in the village of Hoshiv

The Convent of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was founded in 1911. The first head of the monastery was Teresa-Tekla Józefow. The convent of the Sisters of the Holy Family was actively involved in charity, and the nuns conducted educational and outreach work among the parishioners. In the 50s of the last century, the authorities abolished the monastery, and the sisters living in it were sent into exile. The church building was used as a hospital for the mentally ill.

Almost 40 years later, the community has risen in spirit. A new monastery appeared not far from the former monastery. The first tier houses a refectory, library, office space, and cells. The second floor is also reserved for rooms for the sisters. The main structure was a two-story building. The main entrance is decorated with a chapel with a tent octagon. The convent of the Sisters of the Holy Family in Hoshiv has a small promenade courtyard, which is enclosed by a gallery. There is a playground on the territory of the monastery.

The sisters who live within the walls of the monastery continue the work of their predecessors, they educate the younger generation, do charity work, and travel to different countries as part of missionary groups.

If you go by public transport, you can take a regular bus from Ivano-Frankivsk to the city of Bolekhiv (Dolyna district). The village of Hoshiv is located in the suburbs of Bolekhiv.
