Mount Yavorina
Mount Yavorina is located near the village of Lypa in the Dolyna district of Ivano-Frankivsk region, with a height of 1131 meters.
In 1944, Mount Yavorina was home to the Oleni School of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, whose cadets, led by Major Fedir Polevyi (pseudonym "Pol"), died on October 15, 1944, in a Bolshevik ambush in the Hlybokyi tract in a desperate battle with a special unit of NKVD punishers.
On October 31, 1946, the leader of the OUN of the Carpathian region Yaroslav Melnyk (pseudonym "Robert"), at the age of 27, heroically died in a bunker near the school with his wife Antonina, infant son Roman, and comrades-in-arms.
Since 1984, Mount Yavorina has traditionally honored fallen insurgent soldiers. Every year, thousands of Ukrainians pay tribute to the fallen fighters for freedom here.
