Extreme sports, steep descents, and breathtaking views: how Ukrainians relax in Nimchych
Nimchych is a pass in the Carpathians at an altitude of 586 meters above sea level, near the rivers Vyzhynka and Cheremosh, and on the border of Putilsky and Vyzhnytsky districts of Chernivtsi Oblast. Its highlight is the incredible views and extreme entertainment. In Nimchych, the slopes are very steep, so winding roads with terrifying turns, like from American movies, can easily be seen in Ukraine.
To get to Nimchych, we first drive up through the forest from the neighboring village of Vyzhynka. Here, you can take "epic" shots at every turn - on one side are cliffs, and on the other - a precipice. Of course, there are huge spruce, fir, and beech forests - the beauty is incredible. The road to Nimchych is adorned with carved wooden sculptures depicting forest inhabitants that "greet" travelers, inviting them to rest on a bench or taste water from a spring.
In winter, the Nimchych Pass becomes a ski resort, as there are modern recreation bases, lifts, and trails that attract tourists with the beauty of the Carpathians. Moreover, prices here are very symbolic: for food, ski passes, and accommodation in hotels or cottages - it never gets expensive here.
Don't consider yourself an extreme sports lover, and slippery, steep roads are definitely not for you? Here, excitement is unnecessary, as Nimchych is one of the few resorts where vehicles are lowered from above to retrieve tourists' cars that cannot reach the recreation base.
Hotels at the resort are mostly in Hutsul style, as are the restaurants. Tourists actually come for this kind of color, as loft and minimalism are abundant in cities at every turn.
We have already mentioned that Nimchych is famous for its views. Some restaurants here are built along the trail, so you can watch skiers from the window.
Now a few words about Hutsul cuisine. Varenyky, banosh, kuleh, and other Ukrainian dishes are not only very tasty. Such cuisine adds atmosphere and a sense of warmth. Many tourists recommend trying mushroom soup and trout in sour cream sauce.
The Nimchych ski resort has its own tourist and entertainment complex for skiing enthusiasts. Blue trails are designed for beginners - they are quite gentle; red descents are steeper, making them suitable for enthusiasts and professionals. Be prepared for the fact that the descents in Nimchych are hilly and winding, some covered with greenery.
The complex has a ski equipment rental where you can rent skis, snowboards, sleds, helmets, and more. There are also two lifts to heights of 400 and 500 meters and two trails for skiers and snowboarders of 400 and 800 meters.
Nimchych is a paradise for extremists
Here, rafting on mountain rivers, paintball, off-road driving, and many other activities are offered. Among the local attractions is a sleigh ride excursion called "To Hutsulka Ksenia," where tourists are taken down steep slopes and then brought to the hostess (probably Ksenia), who will treat you to Hutsul dishes and tell many local legends.
Near Nimchych is the village of Vyzhynka, which also has many interesting tourist sites for excursions. There are numerous routes to cliffs that are natural monuments - "Protyati Kameni" and "Skeli Dovbusha", "Sokoline Oko", the area "Luzhky", and the cascade "Bukovynski Waterfalls". You can also go to the mineral waters, which are called "little Switzerland" due to numerous waterfalls, canyons, and caves.
Nimchych offers unique landscapes: the slopes of steep mountains surrounded by forests and rivers. It is a very popular place among professional photographers for shooting. Of course, the most popular location is the valley of the Cheremosh River.
If you are a seeker of landscapes, steep mountains do not scare you, and you love Hutsul cuisine - Nimchych will be a solace and an ideal vacation for you. However, you can also come here for a peaceful rest, as the "green" Carpathian atmosphere calls for relaxation and tranquility.
How to get to the village of Pidzakharichi (Nimchych Pass): take a train to Chernivtsi city, then take a minibus to the town of Vyzhnytsia, and then a taxi to the Nimchych Pass. If you want to try the trails of the "Myhovo" ski resort, it is 36.8 km away and takes about an hour to get there.
