Museum of Ethnography and Local History of the Hutsul Region, Pidzakharychi

TheMuseum of Ethnography and Local History of the Hutsul Region in the village of Pidzakharychi, Chernivtsi Oblast, was founded in the 20th century and is located in the village center, not far from the church.

Pidzakharychi is a well-known village throughout the Hutsul region, stretching along the right bank of the Cheremosh River, in the mountains, located 33 km from the district center, Putyla. The village is famous for its five museums, including the Museum of Ethnography and Local History of the Hutsul Region. For the first time in the Putyla district, a rural tourism center was established in this village, which was started by Frozina Tomiuk and her family in their home.

The Museum of Ethnography and Local History displays antiques, Easter eggs, carvings, embroidery, and other folk crafts. Nearby, there is a unique wooden monument to a gargoyle, a giant from which spring water flows. A harchyk is a wooden vessel (a huge mug) that holds fermented milk products that Hutsuls used to take to Vyzhnytsia for sale. Since 2001, the museum has hosted the annual ethnographic Hutsul festival-fair "Zakharetskyi Harchyk" at the end of September to promote rural tourism. This festival is considered to be a fair of ethnic traditions, national culture and crafts, and various competitions are held here. Travelers and tourists try their hand at painting Easter eggs, carving and other crafts. In this area, you can not only get acquainted with the original Hutsul crafts, but also have a great rest, breathing in the clean mountain air.

TheMuseum of Ethnography and Local History of the Hutsul Region in Pidzakharychi is one of the historical and cultural monuments of Ukraine. Be sure to also visit the local Ksenia Kolotylo Museum. It exhibits a variety of highly artistic works of this famous artist: towels, tablecloths, napkins, paths embroidered using various types of techniques, as well as wood and gerdana products that served as women's jewelry, which embody the exquisite taste, tenderness and refined skill of the folk artist. The embroidered paintings deserve considerable attention, one of which depicts the artist's house where she was born, the Cheremosh River and the Carpathian Mountains.
