Bukovinian (Smugar) waterfalls
A picturesque chain of waterfalls, up to two kilometers long, stretches along the Smuhariv River in Bukovyna, in the Carpathian Mountains. It is there that the Smuhariv waterfalls, also known as the Bukovyna waterfalls, sometimes gently murmur and sometimes rush through the stone and wooded slopes.
The small river Smuhariv flows into the larger river Cheremosh. Downstream of the Smuhariv and its tributaries, massive sandstones, limestones, and shales form a cascade of seven waterfalls of varying power and height; their waters fall from sheer ledges or, like a cat, run nimbly along stony clay paths. This is a great place for outdoor enthusiasts. A visit to the Bukovyna waterfalls is often included in rafting programs on the Cheremosh River.
Depending on the time of year, waterfalls can turn into calm streams or noisy streams of water masses. How wonderful it is to feel the power of mountain rivers, to overcome difficult rapids, and in the evening, around a campfire with a guitar, to watch millions of stars that show travelers the Milky Way in the starry sky. You won't see such a sky in the illuminated night cities... it's a fascinating performance of the Big and Little Dipper, as well as many other constellations, and even the Moon seems to be getting closer and closer to eavesdrop on the whispers of Smuhariv waterfalls.
This cascade begins at the Kovber waterfall, which is up to four meters high and four meters wide. It is named after the Romanian ruler of the town, who built a concrete wall there to provide water for the mills. You will recognize the next waterfall by its specific hiss, its height is more than ten meters and it is called Sych. Then there is the vertical Nyzhnyi Huk, and a kilometer away are the Vorota and Serednyi Huk waterfalls. These beauties are completed by the Higher Huk, and in front of it is the most impressive waterfall - the Big Huk, 19 meters high.
The banks of the waterfalls are overgrown with ferns - everything is buried in greenery! The local nature is unique. The Bukovyna waterfalls are part of a landscape reserve, which is subordinated to the Roztoky Forestry of the Carpathian region. They are located near the village of Roztoky, which has a very interesting history. Many prominent people have visited there. It was here that the famous composer Volodymyr Ivasyuk wrote his famous song "Chervona Ruta". These places inspire, fill you with energy, and seem to give you wings with their fabulous landscapes.
