Gurkalo waterfall

Gurkal, located on the Velyka Richka River, has a very eloquent name! You can't argue with it, especially when the snow begins to melt in the mountains - at this time, any waterfall in the Carpathians can only envy the power of Gurkal. At this time, the entire area around the waterfall is filled with the "roar" of violent spring streams falling from a 5-meter height...

Gurkalo is located in Skole district (Lviv region), not far from the village of Korchyn. However, you can usually get there only on foot (except in very dry summers). The dirt road leading to the fountain crosses streams in several places in small valleys, making it almost impossible to drive. And after the rain, it's even more impossible to drive here.

The waterfall is located on the territory of the Skole Beskydy National Nature Park. It consists of only one cascade, which is divided by a rocky ledge into 2 streams: a larger and a smaller one. The latter, by the way, almost completely disappears in dry summers. Under the waterfall there is a water boiler, about 10 meters in diameter and up to 2 meters deep.

Not far from Gurkal, there are several cozy glades with plenty of places to spend the night or just relax on a nice day. There are places to pitch tents, make a fire, and plenty of clean Carpathian water.

It is worth noting that above the waterfall itself there are several small rifts that locals consider a separate waterfall and call it Small Gurkal.

The easiest way to get to Gurkal is from the village of Korchyn. The distance, which is about 6 km, can be covered in 2-2.5 hours at a slow pace. Do not be afraid that you will get lost on the way, because there is a marked route from the village to the hydrological architectural monument.
