Liptovský Ján: thermal water at the entrance to Jánska dolina
Liptovský Ján is an old village in southern Liptov, about 10 km from Liptovský Mikuláš, at the entrance to Jánska dolina valley in the Low Tatras National Park. Its mineral and thermal springs were known as early as the 14th century, and today the best-known place to swim is the summer thermal bath TERMAL raj next to the SOREA MÁJ hotel, which stands at an altitude of about 700 m.
The pools are filled with water from the Rudolf thermal spring. According to the operator, its temperature is 26–29 °C; it is mineralised and acidic, strongly carbonated and moderately rich in hydrogen sulphide. It is considered beneficial for the respiratory tract, joints (rheumatism) and skin (eczema and allergies). Besides the pools, the village has preserved many manor houses and curias from the 16th–17th centuries, so a trip to the water combines easily with a look at the historic buildings.
What to see and do
- Swimming pool 50 × 18 m, 80 to 180 cm deep, divided into sections for swimmers and non-swimmers.
- Children's pool 20–40 cm deep and two quiet relaxation pools.
- Activities in summer: entertainment for children and adults, a tennis court, beach volleyball and a children's zip line; a sauna and massages are nearby.
- Indoor thermal pool of the SOREA MÁJ hotel — a 25 m pool (150–180 cm deep) and a small pool for children; the water is about 28 °C. A session for visitors lasts one and a half hours, with up to 80 people in the pools at once.
- Kaďa — a natural travertine pool with sulphurous mineral water on the edge of the village, open to everyone all year; the Teplica drinking spring and a lookout tower are nearby.
Practical information
Getting there. By car from Liptovský Mikuláš it is about 10 km to the entrance to Jánska dolina; the bath is next to the SOREA MÁJ hotel. The area by the village is flat, so no hiking is needed to get here.
Season and hours. TERMAL raj is a summer bath: the 2026 price list applies from 15 June, and according to the Liptovský Mikuláš tourism portal the pools are open in July–August daily from 9:00 to 19:00. On Mondays only the small pools are open. As of October 2026 the outdoor bath is closed until next summer. Ask at the hotel reception about the indoor pool's off-season hours (April, May, October–December).
Prices (from 15 June 2026, Tuesday–Sunday): adults €16 (after 14:00 €12.50, after 17:30 €8); children aged 3–15, students under 26 and people over 60 €12.50 (€9.50 / €8); children under 3 free. Family tickets: 2 adults + 1 child €38, + 2 children €48, + 3 children €59. On Mondays (only small pools open) €8 for adults and €7 for children. Residents of the region and Liptov Region Card holders get a discount.
Good to know. Because of the water's composition, the thermal pools are not recommended for children under 3, and nappies are not allowed in the small pool. The bath suits families and people who want to relax in the water after a walk in Jánska dolina.

From Liptovský Ján it is not far to the Demänovská Cave of Liberty and the Tatralandia water park, and to the north lies the Liptovská Mara reservoir.

From Uzhhorod to Brezno ≈274 km, ≈3 h 50 min without queues: Uzhhorod – Vyšné Nemecké → I/19 to Košice → D1 via Prešov and Poprad to the exit near Liptovský Hrádok → I/18 and I/72 over the Čertovica Pass to Brezno. To Banská Bystrica ≈322 km, ≈4 h 30 min: D1 to Ružomberok, then I/59 via Donovaly. From Lviv: to Brezno via Uzhok and Ubľa ≈498 km (≈7 h 45 min) or through Poland ≈554 km (≈7 h 05 min); to Banská Bystrica through Poland (Kraków – Chyżne – Trstená – Dolný Kubín – Ružomberok) ≈535 km, ≈7 h 15 min. The D1 requires an e-vignette (eznamka.sk).
