Bešeňová — the "thermal heart of Liptov"

Bešeňová Water Park (Vodný park Bešeňová) lies on the edge of the village of the same name in the western part of the Liptov basin, between Ružomberok and Liptovský Mikuláš. It used to be known also as Gino Paradise; today, like Tatralandia, it is run by Tatry mountain resorts. The water park is open all year and combines thermal pools, slides, saunas and hotels right by the water.

The resort's story began with geological exploration: in 1986–1987 the ZGL-1 borehole was drilled here to a depth of 1,987 m. The first pools of the thermal bath opened to visitors in 1993, and after major investment restaurants and hotels were added from 2006. According to the operator, hot water rises from a depth of 1,987 m and reaches 60.5 °C at the outlet. It is rich in calcium, magnesium, potassium and sulphates and is considered beneficial for the musculoskeletal system and the respiratory tract.

What to see and do

  • Pools. In summer 18 pools are open (5 with thermal water), all year 9, including 4 thermal ones. The most popular is the wave pool that feels like the sea.
  • Átrium. An indoor relaxation zone with a recreational pool at 26–30 °C, a relaxation pool at 36–38 °C with bubbling underwater seats, a children's pool with a fountain and a small spiral slide.
  • Outdoor thermal pools are open in the cold season too; there is a pool bar where you can order a drink while sitting in the water.
  • Harmónia Wellness & Spa. A complex of 50 saunas, steam, water and massage treatments: the large Sauna Dome with sauna rituals, a salt sauna, the Chopok sauna with a view of that peak and outdoor saunas. You can buy a separate entry to the sauna world without visiting the water park.
  • For children. The Fun Tent, a slide tower, FUNPARK and entertainment.

Practical information

Getting there. By car take the D1 motorway, exit 41 "Ivachnová", then head north to the village of Bešeňová. Parking at the water park is free. Buses run directly to the village; Ružomberok bus and railway stations are about 11 km away, Liptovský Mikuláš 18 km. You can also take a train to Liptovská Teplá station and continue by bus or taxi. The nearest airport is Poprad-Tatry.

Opening hours (as of October 2026): from 1 September Sunday–Thursday 10:00–20:00, Friday and Saturday 10:00–21:00; pools, slides and wellness close 15 minutes earlier. The Fun Tent and slide tower run Monday–Thursday from 13:00 and Friday–Sunday from 10:00. During the autumn holidays, 23–31 October, the park is open 10:00–21:00, on 1 November 10:00–20:00.

Tickets (prices depend on the date; example for November 2026 at the ticket office): an all-day AQUA TICKET for an adult costs €40, a 3-hour ticket €34; online on Gopass €36 and €32. A child aged 6–11 pays €30 per day, juniors aged 12–17 and people over 60 €35. Children under 6 enter free. A separate 90-minute sauna entry costs €23. From 16 September to 20 December 2026, on Mondays (except public holidays), a ticket for people over 60 costs €19 and is sold only at the ticket office.

Good to know. Saunas are used without swimwear, for a maximum of 90 minutes; children aged 6–12 only until 17:00. On 3–4 November 2026 the thermal pool BT6 will be closed for maintenance. Bešeňová is a good choice for families and for older people looking for a calm rest in warm water.

A few kilometres away are the Lúčky spa with its healing water and the ruins of Likava Castle. Near Ružomberok, visit the UNESCO-listed village of Vlkolínec, and to the east Liptovská Mara and Tatralandia.

From Lviv it is faster through Poland: M-10 → Krakovets – Korczowa → A4 to Kraków → S7/DK7 to the Chyżne – Trstená border → R3 and I/59 via Dolný Kubín to Ružomberok: ≈482 km, ≈6 h 15 min (via Uzhok and Ubľa ≈500 km, ≈7 h 30 min). The D1 requires an e-vignette (eznamka.sk).
