A craft brewery in the heart of Liptov

Liptovský Mikuláš is the main town of the Liptov region, a short drive from the Low and Western Tatras, the Demänovská Valley and the Liptovská Mara reservoir. On Garbiarska street, a few hundred metres from the historic centre, the Liptovar craft brewery runs together with its own brewery restaurant. The brewers say they continue the tradition of Liptov’s old craft breweries, yet they do not feel bound by classic styles: what matters is flavour and a new experience, so they happily experiment with malts, hops and techniques.

All Liptovar beer is unfiltered and unpasteurised. The ingredients come from Liptov, above all water from the springs of the Low Tatras. Besides beer, the brewery makes pivovica — a strong spirit distilled from its own beer, including a version with gentian (horec).

Why go

• Taste the beer where it is brewed. The restaurant pours the current Liptovar range, and the staff will help you match a beer to your dish.
• Have lunch. The kitchen relies on meat and vegetables from local suppliers and herbs from its own garden; the menu is seasonal, with a lunch offer on weekdays.
• Buy beer to take away. Small 5- and 10-litre kegs (tap rental included) can be collected at the restaurant whenever it is open; bottles, cans and pivovica are also sold in the brewery’s online shop.

Liptovar used to run brewery tours for groups of up to 25 people (about 60 minutes, step-free), but as of October 2026 the brewery says it is temporarily not offering them for technical reasons. So plan on a tasting in the restaurant rather than a tour of the brewhouse.

What to taste and buy

• Beer Up — a 12° pilsner ale, 4.6%: lager malts and mashing but a different yeast, giving a smooth pale ale with Czech and German hops.
• Beer Force One — a 14° IPA, the brewery’s best-known beer.
• Beer Happy — an 11° pale lager, and Propaganda — a 13° amber English Pale Ale.
• Seabeer — a light summer ale with citrus freshness; in spring 2026 the brewery released its first series of cans, including new beers and a non-alcoholic one.
• Beer Strong pivovica (50%) — a spirit distilled from the brewery’s own beer, also available with gentian.

Practical information

Address: Garbiarska 2032, 031 01 Liptovský Mikuláš. It is a short walk from the town centre; by car it is easy to stop on the way from the Demänovská Valley or the D1 motorway. It is an in-town venue, suitable for people who do not hike as well.

Restaurant opening hours (per the website, as of October 2026): Monday–Thursday 12:00–22:00, Friday and Saturday 12:00–24:00, Sunday closed (one block on the website gives an 11:00 start on weekdays).
