Ski Resort "Myhovo": a place where the soul and wallet relax

I didn’t plan my winter vacation in advance. I only knew one thing - it had to be calm, quiet, and cozy. In general, you understand - I didn’t need any trendy advertised resorts, but what is winter without skiing and snowboarding?!

Google came to my rescue. I "stumbled upon" Myhovo - a ski resort in the Bukovinian Carpathians (Vyzhnytsia District), compact and quiet, located at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level. As visitor reviews claimed: "Ideal for family vacations with children". Bukovyna is just what I needed.

Accommodation

I chose a hotel right away. Among the many options, "Gates to the Carpathians" caught my eye. Accommodation prices during the "high" (winter) season are the highest - starting from 900 UAH for a double standard room. However, this is one of the cheapest places I have ever stayed. So, about the hotel. For families, there are wonderful cottages with a fireplace hall and kitchen. I settled in a cottage decorated with hunting trophies, but there is also an option to choose a cottage in Ukrainian style. And, attention, the highlight - a huge indoor pool (which is why I actually chose "Gates..."). For those who want to pamper themselves, there is also a large bath complex with a Turkish hammam and wood-fired sauna. The hotel is located in the center of the Myhovo ski resort, making it very easy to reach the ski slopes, restaurants, and museums. Smoking is prohibited in the rooms. Of course, for smokers, this is a downside, but overall it is pleasant to enter a clean and fresh room and feel the scent of the Carpathians, not the aroma of cheap tobacco from the neighboring room. Internet access is available for everyone around the clock, as there is free Wi-Fi on the territory of Myhovo.

Dining

Now let’s talk about restaurants. The prices pleasantly surprised me, and the average cost of a full lunch with dessert is 150-200 UAH. Agree, in some resorts, that’s the price of just one soup - so during my vacation in Myhovo, I was full and happy. The average price for a three-meal package is from 150 to 250 UAH. Now for the most pleasant part. Many establishments in Myhovo organize banquets, celebrations, gift raffles, and show programs for New Year’s. I really regret that I missed the opportunity this year, but next time I will definitely make up for it. I really liked the restaurant "Hetman" in medieval style - in fact, I will come to them next New Year. Just imagine how atmospheric it is to celebrate as if you are in an ancient castle. By the way, right in front of the restaurant, there is an ice rink that works even at temperatures above 15 degrees, and the lighting and music charge even the most sullen with positivity.

However, here your eyes will wander, as all establishments at the Myhovo ski resort are extremely colorful: each has its own style, its own "highlights", unique dishes, and original interiors. In the restaurant "Kolyba", all dishes are prepared over an open fire in your presence, and in "Carpathian Tower", there is a huge selection of wines, beers, and other alcohol. There is also a very tasty pizzeria and a cafeteria "Shvydko", where you can have a hearty lunch for 100 UAH.

How to get to this ski paradise?

First, you need to get to Chernivtsi - from there, minibuses to Myhovo run every half hour or 40 minutes, and the journey from AS-1 to Myhovo takes 1.5 hours. You can get to Chernivtsi by bus or train, the latter being cheaper. For example, tickets from Lviv to Chernivtsi by train cost about 140 UAH, and by bus from Lviv - 250-300 UAH. Of course, my friend and I chose the most convenient option and went by car - there were many parking lots in Myhovo, so there were no problems with that.

A bit about Solonets

Near Myhovo, there is the Solonets area with mineral water springs that have healing properties. It is very salty (impossible to drown anything) and very beneficial for the stomach. Locals cook food with this water. My acquaintance, a dietitian, claims that "Naftusia" water from the area sometimes helps better than detox - so you can combine the pleasant with the useful.

"Compact" - this is how I would describe Myhovo. Small distances are a highlight of the resort. It is true that it is very convenient to vacation with children here. Everything is nearby, small queues (I have never waited longer than 15 minutes!) and loyalty systems. The road from the hotel to any other location takes a maximum of ten minutes on foot - and that’s with snow. It would seem that if the prices are so ridiculous, there would be a lot of people and huge queues, but the ski slopes are served by two "t-bar" lifts with lengths of 1000 and 600 meters. The lifts operate simultaneously, and there are also four turnstiles that ensure practically no queues. Everyone, even those who went during peak season, claims that the queue is no more than 10 minutes.

A big bonus is the conversion tracked transporters. What is that? It’s hard to explain, you need to see it. However, they perform a very useful function - they will take you to any picturesque place, to any peak where no car can reach.

There is also a medical point on the territory of the complex with a duty doctor from 9:00-21:00 (near the cash desk of the t-bar lift and snow tubing), but in Myhovo, the slopes are mostly for amateurs, so it is quite difficult to get any injury.

Leisure

1. There is a SPA center in Myhovo, which has divine hammam and Finnish sauna. I don’t understand how one can go to the mountains and not undergo a few spa treatments?! By the way, on the second floor, there is a gym - just a note for those who decided not to exercise during their vacation.

2. You can also go on excursions from Myhovo: to Chernivtsi, Kolomiya, and Yaremche, medieval Khotyn and Kamianets-Podilskyi, museums of prominent figures, churches and temples, waterfalls, and areas. We chose an excursion to Khotyn - learned many interesting facts, comfortably traveled, and generally had a pleasant time, as if we were filming "The Three Musketeers". They also practice extreme tourism here: climbing tours, spelunking (cave excursions), rafting on rivers, parachuting, aerial excursions, and hunting. I wanted to try everything, but we were limited by time.

3. In addition, Myhovo traditionally hosts festivals for the holidays of Melanka and Maslenitsa - I really want to attend these colorful folk celebrations, just like in ancient Ukraine.

4. In the entertainment complex "Trembita", there is bowling and a children's cinema.

5. In Myhovo, you can ride horses - I couldn’t help but mention this, as I ride them whenever I have the chance. You can also rent an ATV or bicycle and explore the Carpathian flora and fauna on your own. We chose an ATV and were satisfied - you arrange the excursion for yourself, not limited by time, and enjoy nature.

6. Shooting range, table tennis, and tennis court - well, you understand, right? You definitely won’t be bored here.

7. My friend’s daughter enjoyed spending time in the rope park - a joy for children, peace for parents. There are also children's rooms on the resort's territory.

8. Local residents recommend tourists to come during the berry and mushroom season - they can be collected here. By the way, such "field" tourism has become very popular and even trendy among bloggers and influencers in recent years. They say that gathering helps relax, rest the soul, and is beneficial for health. I also started practicing this - I haven’t felt my inner "zen" yet, but gathering really helps to become calmer.

Ski passes and slopes for skiers and snowboarders

Rentals are available at every turn, there are two ski schools and private instructors. The slopes are great for enthusiasts. The best way to master the art of skiing is on safe descents that are not too steep and sharp. In total, there are five slopes, with a total length of over 3300 m. On the slope of Mount Mala Kichera, there are two descents: the first is for beginners and the second for those who appreciate snowboarding.

There is a separate snow tubing slope 250 meters long. Snow tubing is like "inflatable cushions". Riding on them requires no prior preparation and is suitable for both children and adults (the cost of one hour of riding is 150-220 UAH). However, there are certified slopes for professionals and extreme sports enthusiasts, as well as slalom slopes. They seem to be used for national and international competitions. All slopes in Myhovo are illuminated, which is a huge plus. The snow tubing slope and beginner sector are equipped with "baby lifts".

Now for the main thing - ski passes. In winter, I paid 350 UAH per day. In low seasons, the prices are even cheaper (although, it would seem, there is nowhere cheaper). Children under 7 years old ski for free, and from 7 to 12 - a 50% discount. This time on vacation, I tried night skiing for the first time. I immediately set myself up that this pleasure is not cheap, but the prices "told" me something completely different - 250 UAH for skiing from 18:00 to 21:00. You can buy a subscription for skiing, but I deposited an arbitrary amount of money (on the principle of an "electronic wallet"). The turnstile automatically deducted the cost of entry depending on the current tariff. There are two advantages here: first, you can top up your account at the cash desk at any time; second, you can receive the unused amount in cash or check the balance on a separate tablet.

For people who do not have skiing equipment (like me), there will be no problems with this - and you won’t have to stand in line. In winter, I paid 100 UAH per day for a snowboard, my friend chose skis and paid 70 UAH. For her daughter’s children’s set, she paid the same amount. The set also includes helmets (by the way, from leading world manufacturers - for such an inexpensive resort, this is impressive). I want to emphasize again that in the low season (from April to November), prices for equipment and everything else are even cheaper.

Prices for skiing season 2019-2020

In Myhovo, there are two ski schools, and each has ski and snowboard instructors certified by the Association of Professional Ski Instructors of Ukraine. For an hour of lessons, we paid 120 UAH (on weekdays) and 150 UAH (on weekends). Groups consist of four to six people. This season 2019-2020, prices for ski school from 29.12.19 to 14.01.20 will cost 400-450 UAH per hour.

Ski schools and private instructors

In my opinion, the Myhovo ski resort is perfect for people who are not particular about advertised and "cool" vacations and for those who are just starting to ski or snowboard. You can have a wonderful family vacation here or just have fun with close friends (and don’t forget to buy Carpathian souvenirs). It’s atmospheric, calm, and cozy here, and there’s no need to rush anywhere. I am satisfied with the vacation and will definitely return here again, at least for New Year’s celebrations.
