Proactive blogger Kateryna Seriogina writes on her blog that"Bene, which means "GOOD" in Italian, is a truly unique village. There are very few, if any, like it in Ukraine. It is located in a picturesque corner of the Berehove district of the Zakarpattia region, on the banks of the Borzhava river. Sheltered from the cold winds by the vineyard mountains, the village has its own special microclimate, thanks to which it is buried in the greenery of fruit trees. In addition, Bene is the warmest point on the entire map of Zakarpattia. The population here is also special, mostly Hungarians, people who love their language and are proud of their customs and rituals.Bene has its own artists, sculptors, beauty industry masters, pastry chefs who conduct culinary master classes on cooking Transcarpathian and Hungarian dishes; football players, actors, and farmers who know how to grow peaches, tomatoes, strawberries, grapes, quince, and figs; healers, hunters, winemakers, and now a blogger. There are also a lot of winemakers in Bene, and almost every house has its own cellar where the drink made by the owner's own hands is stored. The village also has its own celebrities. They are brothers Gergely and Laszlo Paraska, sons of the winemaker Yurii Paraska. The Paraska brothers' wine cellar, which is also a tasting room, is considered a real Mecca for tourists who come to Bene. The wine cellar has its own history. Back in 1916, captured Italians appeared in Berehove district. Many of them were masters of mining. Having studied the geology of the local rocks, they hollowed out six wine cellars, leaving a significant mark on the local community. The cellar is particularly proud of its so-called ice wine. This technology was first invented by a Canadian resident who was unable to harvest his crops on time due to illness. The wine made from grozen (as the bunches are called in Zakarpattia), harvested after the first ten-degree frost, acquires a unique flavor and color.Molnar Yosyf is a winemaker whose wine is in demand at all times of the year. The wine he produces in his cellar is so popular among the local population that tourists hardly have enough of it. They buy it and send it to their best friends as gifts. However, every resident of Bene knows that if you don't stock up on wine in time, you might not get any the next year. Our winemakers often participate in Transcarpathian and foreign festivals. For example, winemaker Birov Ernev, whose wine I personally love and recommend to everyone, or Varga Istvan, who has a family tasting room and has been making wine and growing grapes for the second generation.Tourists love Bene. We have places to stay, food to eat, and things to do. However, if you just come to the village without warning anyone, you risk being left without wine, without a roof over your head, and without interesting experiences."
