Bene (formerly known as Dobrosil) is a village in Berehove district, Transcarpathian region, which is part of the so-called "Berehove Wine District". Before leaving, guests should definitely choose accommodation in the private sector of Bene. The population is 1409 people (as of 2001). Bene was founded by the Hungarians on the right bank of the Borzhava River (a tributary of the Tisa) around 1269. The climate is warm, as the mountains protect the village from the cold winds of the north.
Bene is one of the villages that combines all the best that Transcarpathia can be characterized by. It is famous for its fine wines and ancient wine cellars, which keep the temperature at 12-13 degrees in any weather. The majority of the village's population is Hungarian, which easily explains the style of local houses and architecture, with its own traditions and peculiarities of life. This place is considered the warmest in Zakarpattia and is popular with lovers who often come here on weekends.
Benet smells like peaches, cherries and, of course, vineyards. The old wine cellars, which were cut into the surrounding hills back in 1916, are one of the attractions of the village of Benet. Some residents are still engaged in winemaking and will be happy to treat you to their delicious wine. Throughout its existence, the village has seen many owners. In 1918, the Romanian army entered the territory, and a year later the territory already belonged to Czechoslovakia. In 1938, the village rejoined Hungary. Nowadays, this beautiful and cozy place pleases tourists as a paradise of Ukraine in Zakarpattia.
Architectural monuments
  • A special place is occupied by the Gothic Church of the Heart of Jesus Christ, which is an architectural monument of national importance. This building dates back to the 14th century. In 1593, the villagers joined the Reformed Church and the church was rebuilt. The temple was destroyed and rebuilt again. In 1999, a restoration was carried out, which brought the original appearance of the church as close as possible.
  • The manor-type monument is the former estate of a local landowner, winemaker and viticulturist Josef Pum (1928).
  • Monument to the victims of Stalinism and World War II (1992).
Among the interesting events in the village every year in August on the banks of the Borzhava river is the Arena music festival, which is attended by Ukrainian, Hungarian and Romanian bands and performers. The concert is held for four days, during which there is an opportunity to stay in tents that can be placed in the same festival town.
Proactive blogger Kateryna Seriogina writes on her blog that"Bene, which means "GOOD" in Italian, is a truly unique village. There are very few, if any, like it in Ukraine. It is located in a picturesque corner of the Berehove district of the Zakarpattia region, on the banks of the Borzhava river. Sheltered from the cold winds by the vineyard mountains, the village has its own special microclimate, thanks to which it is buried in the greenery of fruit trees. In addition, Bene is the warmest point on the entire map of Zakarpattia. The population here is also special, mostly Hungarians, people who love their language and are proud of their customs and rituals.Bene has its own artists, sculptors, beauty industry masters, pastry chefs who conduct culinary master classes on cooking Transcarpathian and Hungarian dishes; football players, actors, and farmers who know how to grow peaches, tomatoes, strawberries, grapes, quince, and figs; healers, hunters, winemakers, and now a blogger.
There are also a lot of winemakers in Bene, and almost every house has its own cellar where the drink made by the owner's own hands is stored. The village also has its own celebrities. They are brothers Gergely and Laszlo Paraska, sons of the winemaker Yurii Paraska. The Paraska brothers' wine cellar, which is also a tasting room, is considered a real Mecca for tourists who come to Bene. The wine cellar has its own history. Back in 1916, captured Italians appeared in Berehove district. Many of them were masters of mining. Having studied the geology of the local rocks, they hollowed out six wine cellars, leaving a significant mark on the local community. The cellar is particularly proud of its so-called ice wine. This technology was first invented by a Canadian resident who was unable to harvest his crops on time due to illness. The wine made from grozen (as the bunches are called in Zakarpattia), harvested after the first ten-degree frost, acquires a unique flavor and color.
Molnar Yosyf is a winemaker whose wine is in demand at all times of the year. The wine he produces in his cellar is so popular among the local population that tourists hardly have enough of it. They buy it and send it to their best friends as gifts. However, every resident of Bene knows that if you don't stock up on wine in time, you might not get any the next year.
Our winemakers often participate in Transcarpathian and foreign festivals. For example, winemaker Birov Ernev, whose wine I personally love and recommend to everyone, or Varga Istvan, who has a family tasting room and has been making wine and growing grapes for the second generation.

Tourists love Bene. We have places to stay, food to eat, and things to do. However, if you just come to the village without warning anyone, you risk being left without wine, without a roof over your head, and without interesting experiences."
