Throughout its centuries-long history, the village of Valya Kuzmina has been part of various states. The first mention of the village dates back to 1490. The name of the village is connected with the surname of a wealthy boyar Kuzmin, who inherited this valley, and in Romanian "Valia" means a valley that was his property, and therefore the village was called "Valia Kuzminului" in Ukrainian, which means "Kuzmin's Valley".
