Literary and Memorial Museum of Olha Kobylianska, Chernivtsi
The opening of the museum was dedicated to the writer's birthday on November 27. She lived in this house from 1925 until her death on March 21, 1942. The exhibits were preserved and presented to the public. The museum's collection was replenished by admirers of Olha Kobylianska's work. The diary that she kept for 7 years was preserved abroad and in the 2000s was transferred to the museum.
The museum is located in 5 rooms of a small mansion in Chervnivtsi. The exhibits in the halls will tell you about the life and work of the writer. The first two rooms contain books from the writer's personal library, and Olga's drawings hang on the walls. The next room contains a study with photos and personal belongings of Olha Kobylianska. The interior of the room has a piano and a desk.
Kobylianska was born on November 27, 1863 in the town of Hura-Humora in Bukovyna. As a child, she spoke Ukrainian, Polish, and German. In the mid-1990s, Kobylianska wrote dozens of short stories, novellas, novels, and journalistic articles for almost 50 years. Most of her works were written in German, some were published in periodicals, and in 1901 they were published as a separate book entitled Kleinrussische Novellen. Kobylianska's journalistic works and memoirs constitute a separate group. In addition to literature, Kobylianska was interested in music, painting, acting in the theater, and dreaming of becoming an actress. The writer wrote her first works at the age of 14, and at 17 she wrote her first short story "Hortense or an Essay from the Life of a Girl" also in German. The girl's first love was Yevhen Ozarkevych, Kobrynska's cousin. In the summer of 1899, Kobylianska visits Kyiv (for the only time).
