Pezinok is a town and the administrative centre of the Pezinok District in the Bratislava Region of Slovakia. Situated at an elevation of 151 metres, Pezinok lies at the foot of the Little Carpathians, part of the Western Carpathians, in the country's west. The town is located about 20 km northeast of Bratislava, where the mountains meet the Danubian Lowland.
The first written mention of Pezinok dates back to 1208. In the Middle Ages, the town was part of the Kingdom of Hungary and later became a free royal town. Over the centuries, Pezinok developed as a centre of viticulture, and in the 19th century, industrialisation began. After World War I, it became part of Czechoslovakia, and since the second half of the 20th century, the town has been growing again.
Pezinok is known for its vineyards and wine production, belonging to the region of the Little Carpathians Vineyards. Ceramic and woodworking industries are also present. The scenic slopes of the Little Carpathians attract nature lovers, and there is a ski resort on Baba mountain. The town has a rich cultural heritage and is the birthplace of many notable Slovak figures.
Visitors to Pezinok can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. Numerous hiking trails pass through the town and its surroundings, such as "Pezinok, station – Modra, square" and "Pezinok, station – Pernek". Mountain enthusiasts can climb the peaks of Velká Homola and Kukla. Local wineries, like HACAJ in Pezinok, offer tastings of sparkling wine in historic cellars. For a nature retreat, the "Zocha's Hut" mountain shelter is available nearby.
