Mount Kaminna
Kaminna (sometimes called Kamiana) is a 1,127 m summit in the south-eastern part of the Polonyna Borzhava massif in Zakarpattia Oblast, on the stretch of ridge between the Pryslip pass and Polonyna Kuk. The nearest villages are Sopky and Tiushka (both about 4.6 km away); Mizhhiria is about 8.4 km and Lysychovo about 8.6 km away.
About 1.3 km north-east of Kaminna stands Stovba (1,016 m), 1.9 km to the north-west the summit of Pryslip (1,142 m), and 2.4 km to the south begins Polonyna Kuk (1,189 m). About 4.4 km to the south-west rises Kuk (1,361 m), and 3.9 km to the east Menchul (1,247 m).
How to get there
Fourteen of our routes cross Kaminna or pass within 90 m of it. For a hike from Mizhhiria, try:
- Mizhhiria – Sopky – Mount Zhyd-Mahura – Mount Hemba – Mount Velykyi Verkh – Volovets, 51.4 km, about 1,970 m of ascent;
- Mizhhiria – Mount Zhyd-Mahura – Mount Hemba – Mount Stii – Mount Velykyi Verkh – Volovets, 56.4 km, including the highest summit of Borzhava.
To walk the whole massif, choose Skotarske – Polonyna Borzhava – Polonyna Palenyi Hrun – Vilshanske Reservoir (72.3 km). The Transcarpathian Tourist Trail also crosses the summit.
Water, shelter and safety
On our map the nearest springs are about 1.1 km from the summit: one to the south (about 1,010 m) and one to the north-west (about 980 m); their condition is unknown. Several more springs are marked on Polonyna Kuk, 1.7–2.5 km to the south, and there, about 2.6 km away, a hut at about 1,120 m. The ridge is dangerous in thunderstorms and fog, so set out only on a reliable forecast. The nearest summit with our forecast is the weather on Mount Stii, about 18 km away. In an emergency call 112 or 101 — mountain rescue works around the clock.
Interesting facts
- About 500 m from the summit lies Lake Repynne, a high mountain lake of about 1 ha, protected as a local hydrological natural monument since 1969.
- The lake lies in the Repynne area north-east of the village of Lysychovo and has long been a resting place for hikers.
