Pylypets Sky & Bike Park: chairlift and bike park, Pylypets
Pylypets Sky & Bike Park is a chairlift and bike park in the Zakarpattia village of Pylypets, one of the region’s best-loved ski resorts. In winter people come here to ski, and from spring to late autumn the chairlift carries anyone who wants to reach the Borzhava ridge – without a long, tiring climb on foot. For families with children, older travellers or anyone who simply wants to see the Carpathians from above, the Pylypets chairlift is the easiest way up to the high meadows.
Riding up to Borzhava
The lower station is in the village itself, at the foot of the slopes. The ride in open chairs takes about 20 minutes, and the views begin halfway: forest clearings and ski runs below, the valley of Pylypets and rolling Zakarpattia ridges behind you. At the top the endless Borzhava meadow opens up, its grassy slopes covered in bilberries in August. There is a tea house, a mountain hut and souvenir stalls, and hiking trails start from the upper station towards Mount Hymba (1,497 m) and Vysokyi Verkh. You can ride up and back down, or buy a one-way ticket and walk down along the trail.
The bike park
In summer the Pylypets slopes turn into a bike park for gravity riding. Trails cater for different levels, from gentler descents for beginners to technical lines with jumps and roots for experienced riders. Bikes and riders go up on the same chairlift, so you can fit in plenty of runs in a day. Beginners have practice areas, and there is bike and protective gear rental on site. Races and bike festivals take place here regularly during the season.
What to do with kids
For children, the chair ride over the forest is an adventure in itself. At the top you can have a picnic on the grass, pick berries, fly a kite or walk across the meadow to the nearest viewpoints. The area around the upper station is the busiest, so tea or a snack is easy to find. Remember that the ridge is almost always windy and noticeably colder than the village – bring warm jackets and hats even on a hot day.
