The Carpathians are full of mysteries and legends. Beautiful forests shrouded in fog attract tourists from all over the world. One of these places is the Bukovetsky Pass. It is a place where many tourist routes converge and where you can take a break from the climbs.

The Bukovetsky pass is very picturesque and in its landscape beauty is in no way inferior to other passes in the Ukrainian Carpathians. Its peculiarity is mixed forests, beech and coniferous; while coniferous trees prevail on the side of the Verkhovyna district, after crossing the highest point of the pass, more and more beech forests are observed.

At the top of the pass stands the Church of the Ascension, which belongs to the village of Bukovets, and there is a shop and a bus stop. The ascent to the pass on both sides is smooth and not too steep, there is only one serpentine turn on each side.

Interesting facts about Bukovetsky Pass

  • The pass is located in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
  • The height of the pass is 810 meters (according to other sources, 835 meters).
  • The pass is surrounded by the Black Cheremosh and Rybnytsia rivers.
  • Most of the pass is covered with coniferous forests. In some places there are meadows.

The slopes of the pass are quite gentle. This makes the ascent much easier. Even a beginner can make it to the top of the pass. The effort is worth it in any case! The top offers stunning views of the surrounding area. Dark green forests are interspersed with meadows where sheep graze peacefully. Villages and wooden churches can be seen in the distance.

This place is good not only for its pristine nature. Here you can see many funny animals. In summer and autumn the pass is filled with berries and mushrooms. In winter, it is dressed in fluffy snowy clothes.

But the pass is no less interesting from a historical point of view. According to legend, it was in this place that the ancestors of the Carpathian inhabitants, the carps, settled. This is evidenced by the remains of rock art.

Bukovets Pass played a role in many battles. In fact, there are rumors that mythical creatures live here and can fulfill the wishes of good people. If possible, you can check it out.

The pass is the starting point of a hiking route to the local natural monument - the rocks of Pysanyi Kamen, Ternoshorskaya Lada, as well as to the Igrets ridge with the Igrets peak (1311 m) and Bukovetsky waterfall.

Nearest settlements: Bukovets village, Cheretiv village, Kryvorivnia village.

Forests in the vicinity of the pass occupy no more than 20-30% of the mountain area, most of the territory is covered with meadows. Therefore, while traveling along the above-mentioned highway, it is a good idea to make a stop here to take a break and enjoy the fabulous views of the Hutsul region.

Bukovets Pass is located near the village of Bukovets. You can get to the village by bus from Ivano-Frankivsk, the next bus in the direction of Verkhovyna. If you are traveling by car, it is best to take the P24 highway.
