Aviary of Selyatyn forestry, Selyatyn
The animal enclosure is located on the territory of the Selyatyn forestry in Chernivtsi Oblast, covering an area of 3.8 hectares. It was opened in 1995 and now there are more than 16 species of animals, including wolves, several foxes, bears, roe deer, deer, hares, wild boar, eagle, badgers, peacocks, and martens. Almost all the animals living in the enclosure were picked up in the forest because they were sick or injured. They are also cubs of animals whose parents died. All of them were nursed by the forestry workers and provided with optimal conditions for their normal existence.
Today, the wild animal enclosure is very popular, and many visitors are interested in learning about the animals that live in the Bukovyna Carpathians. Guests of the Putyla region, excursion groups from educational institutions, and families are happy to come to spend meaningful leisure time and gain positive experience from communicating with forest inhabitants.
If you want to see a sturdy bear with your own eyes or treat a horned deer, you can do so in Selyatyno, Putyla district, where wild animals are cared for in the local forestry enclosure. Despite the long and difficult journey, it's worth it. Deer, roe deer, wild boars, foxes, badgers, and exotic peacocks live in a huge enclosure at the Ecological and Educational Center at arm's length. However, it is not safe to get close to all of them. Near the enclosures there are two ponds with carp, catfish, and silver carp.
"It's hard to convey the admiration that these animals evoke even among adult visitors in words: it's one thing to read a tourist guide with vivid pictures, and another to actually see a stout bear, a fierce predatory animal that opens its food drawer a meter away from you," the foresters say. There is no zoo atmosphere in the aviary: all animals are kept in semi-free conditions on an area of almost 4 hectares. Depending on the time of day, the animals can walk in the forest or come to the food troughs. Almost all the animals living on the farm were picked up in the neighboring forests. Some were sick, others were injured, and some were left without parental care. All of them were nursed by forestry workers. Traditionally, bears are named after the person who found them. Now there are three of them - Masha, Antosha and the youngest, five-year-old Slavka. Although the bears have been provided with all the comfortable conditions, they have not yet given birth in captivity.
Maintaining such a center is not cheap. The foresters harvest 6-7 haystacks of hay and flocks. They constantly buy dry food, vitamins, frozen fish, eggs, oil, carrots, apples and other products. The animals' diet is balanced and varied. The farm provides three meals a day.
In order to emphasize the attractiveness of the region, attract tourists and convince the public of the need to take care of the flora and fauna of the Carpathians, the director of Putyla Forestry does his best to create the right conditions in the menagerie. Skillful management, knowledge of the business, active citizenship and the desire to do their best work contribute to the positive dynamics of the mountainous region's development. The foresters of Putyla Forestry are aware of this and are ready to continue to work fruitfully and efficiently for the benefit of their native land.
The ancient Church of the Virgin Mary is also worth visiting in Selyatyn.
