Termy Bukovina

ul. Sportowa 22, 34-530 Bukowina Tatrzańska, Poland

10,000-year-old water next to the Tatra National Park

Termy Bukovina is a modern thermal pool complex in Bukowina Tatrzańska, a village lying about a thousand metres above sea level on the edge of the Tatra National Park. According to the complex, Zakopane is 15 km away and Nowy Targ 20 km.

The water is the main asset here. It is drawn from the Bukowina Tatrzańska PIG/PNiG-1 well on the north-western slope of Wysoki Wierch, from a depth of 2,400 m. At 2,390–2,605 m the rock and water reach over 70 °C; the water comes to the surface at 67 °C, and the well yields 48 m³ per hour. As the complex explains, drawing on research by the Polish Geological Institute, rain and snowmelt seeped into the Tatra rocks about 10,000 years ago and have been picking up minerals ever since. Total mineralisation is up to 1.7 g/dm³; the water is of the sulphate–sodium–calcium, sulphide and fluoride type, with 28 mineral components (including calcium, sodium, potassium, magnesium and sulphur). Before it reaches the pools it is cooled to 30–38 °C, depending on the pool.

What to see and do

  • 20 thermal pools — indoor and outdoor leisure pools and an outdoor swimming pool. The largest indoor pool carries the highland name "Bonior Basisty".
  • New slides: three year-round ones — the longest, a family raft slide called the "Tatra Slide" with 6 multimedia programmes, the colourful "Bukowiańsko Ruła" with 7 programmes (from a flight over a mountain ridge to a space voyage) and the fast "Marmot Tunnel". In summer two more outdoor slides open — "Krynconka" and the short, steep "Łostry Śwung".
  • Sauna zone — 8 saunas: Finnish saunas (including a 110 °C highland sauna in an outdoor wooden hut), steam baths, a laconium, an infrared cabin and a cooling and rest area. The sauna zone is swimwear-free (a sheet or towel is allowed). Aroma rituals take place in the "Łozpolona Maryna" Finnish sauna (90 °C) at 12:00, 14:00, 19:00 and 21:00.
  • Activities: aqua aerobics with an instructor at 11:00, 15:00 and 18:00; every Sunday from 10:00 to 12:00, free first diving lessons for children supervised by lifeguards.
  • "Pool Night" (Noc Basenów) — a regular club party on the water with DJs, a stage and light shows; on these days ticket sales follow special rules.
  • Next door are the Wellness BUKOVINA spa with massages and beauty treatments and the Bukovina hotel.
