Termy Gorący Potok (Szaflary)

Os. Nowe 45, 34-424 Szaflary, Poland

Termy Gorący Potok is a complex of outdoor thermal pools in Szaflary, between Nowy Targ and Zakopane, about 15 km from Zakopane. Its owners call it "the only natural thermal baths in Podhale": the pools are filled with raw sulphur geothermal water which, they say, is not additionally treated, so bathers soak in exactly what comes up from the ground. Water temperature in the pools ranges from 32 to 40 °C (the FAQ says 34 to 40 °C, and each pool has a sign with the current temperature), so it is pleasant in summer and in winter alike, when steam rises over the water and snow lies all around.

The complex is built in highlander style, with timber, stone and regional motifs. According to the website, guests can use 21 pools of different kinds, including 10 outdoor thermal pools. The water contains sulphur, magnesium, manganese, iron, sodium, potassium and chromium; the owners link bathing with benefits for the skin, circulation and recovery.

What to see and do

  • Ślebodny Bonior — the largest pool, about 37–38 °C, with fountains; the recommended place to start.
  • Siarcane Koloseum — one of the warmest pools (38–40 °C), with a stone fountain constantly pouring hot mineral water.
  • Zawaternik przy Smreku — a pool with a wooden bar in the middle; Górsko Riviera — 38–39 °C with water massage; Podkowa — next to the stage used for concerts and aqua aerobics.
  • Wartki Potok — the longest pool (70 m) with cooler water of about 30 °C for those who want to swim.
  • Summer kids' zone (summer only, weather permitting): three big slides (80, 44 and 52 m; for adults and children over 130 cm, the blue one from 110 cm), the Wet Bubble pool with a giant inflatable balloon (up to age 14), the Figle Migle water playground, inflatable water parks, the Baba Jaga beach playground and volleyball.
  • Grzysno Przyjemność spa zone (18+) — dry saunas, a steam room, the large Gawra sauna with sauna ceremonies, three private granite tubs with water richer in sulphur, a salt graduation wall, jacuzzi, peat (borowina) baths in tubs and massages. The zone is textile-free and adults only.
