Krylos
Krylos is a village in the Halych district of Ivano-Frankivsk region, where the capital of the Galician-Volyn state, Halych, existed in the 12th-14th centuries. Archaeological, historical, and topographical explorations of the area around the Church of the Assumption in Krylos have yielded a significant amount of information about the history and material culture of ancient Halych. The first chronicle mention of the Cathedral Church of the Assumption in Halych in 1187, associated with the death and burial of Prince Yaroslav Volodymyrovych (Osmomysl), who in his life "came to the church ranks himself and built a good wing," is associated with the hypothesis that the modern name of the village comes from the name of the episcopal seat "Krylos."
Thus, written evidence records the existence of a "krylos" (so-called chapter house) at the Assumption Cathedral in the twelfth century. The main church of the capital was also the place of enthronement of the Galician princes. In 1215, the coronation of the Hungarian king Koloman as the king of Galicia took place here. The Galician Assumption Cathedral was not only the compositional and sacred center of the princely city, next to which were located the princely and bishop's (later metropolitan) courts, but also served as a fortified citadel (Latin: eclessia incastellata, "the city on the church"), as evidenced by descriptions of the events of 1219 and 1254. The villages of Pidhoroddia (now the left-bank part of the village) and Chetverky are attached to Krylos. One of the places in the village is the Pidhoroddia suburb. According to the Royal Lustration of 1565, there were 3 kmetas, 4 zahorodnyky, and two priests in the village (hence, there was a church).

It is here, in Krylos, in the heart of princely Halych, that the archaeological, architectural, and deep history of the chronicle capital is located. It was once one of the largest cities in Europe. This urban agglomeration, centered in the Princely Wing, was much larger than the cities of the ancient world, such as Babylon, Rome, and Constantinople. Galicia was one of the most powerful centers of our statehood; the Ukrainian spirit was born here and tempered in the victorious victories of Galician regiments led by wise princes. State documents were drawn up, chronicles and gospels were written, and other works of art were created. White stone churches were built that were equal to world cultural monuments.
