Princely well, Krylos

The village of Krylos in Prykarpattia has a long and glorious history. It was once home to the city of Halych, the capital of the Galicia-Volyn principality. On one of the hills there is the Princely Well. It is a spring shrouded in ancient legends and tales. Back in the days when the city was repeatedly besieged, locals used to take water here and escape death.

According to one of the legends, during the next siege of Halych, the townspeople had food supplies, but there was not enough water for everyone. The prince and his advisors climbed one of the mountains and stuck his sword into the ground. And a spring began to gush out from under him. Thus, the people were saved, and the enemies soon retreated from the city walls. The ruler ordered to ennoble the life-giving spring, which was later called the Princely Well.

Another story tells of an old wise man. During a long siege, the army was so exhausted that it asked the prince to surrender. The old man advised him to wait with his decision and led him to a mountain in the outskirts of the city. The ruler stuck his sword in the ground in the city, where the last rays of the sun were falling, and a stream began to flow from there.

By the 1100th anniversary of Halych, in 1998, the Princely Well was restored and an observation deck was built nearby. The viewpoint offers a beautiful view of Halych, the 12th-century St. Panteleimon Church, and the chimneys of the Burshtyn thermal power plant.

The water in the spring is delicious, and many people come here with bottles to take home or on the road. You can also bring a container to take water from the well in Krylos. Going downstairs, you can drink healing water from another spring, which has a romantic name "Francis's Eyes".

You can get to the Princely Well in Krylos from Halych or Ivano-Frankivsk. The village is located 7 kilometers from Halych on the H09 road. The Princely Well is located a few hundred meters from the Ancient Halych National Reserve (the road to it goes to the right of the main entrance).
