St. Michael's Church, Yaremche

St. Michael's Church in Yaremche is a wooden church located on the outskirts of the resort town, in the village of Dora. The temple was built in 1844. Today it is the center of the spiritual life of the city. Since the temple is located on a hill, it can be seen from all corners of the village.

The church was designed by local architect V. Hnishik. Previously, an older 17th-century church made of wood was located on this site. In the 19th century, the parish grew larger, so the church was rebuilt and expanded. The old paintings were painted over, and then the walls were decorated again. However, to this day they have not been preserved in their original form; in the 50s of the 20th century, the painting was restored. The work was also done by a local artist.

From 1946 to 1990, the church was used by the community of the Russian Orthodox Church. After Ukraine gained independence, the church building was returned to the Greek Catholic community.

The main attraction of St. Michael's Church in Yaremche is the iconostasis made of wood. The depicted icons date back to the 17th-19th centuries. They have a high artistic value and are also a true masterpiece of Hutsul architecture. Much of the ornamentation that adorns the walls of the church was created in the early 20th century.

It is worth noting that the appearance of St. Michael's Church is quite modern, as most of the church is covered with a metal coating for fire safety purposes.
