Nanashkova Khata Ethno-Homestead, Lopushanka-Khomyna

Lopushanka-Khomyna, Lviv region, Ukraine

Nanashkova Khata ethno-homestead is a restored Boyko house built in 1930 in the village of Lopushanka-Khomyna, Sambir district, in a quiet mountain valley of the Lviv Carpathians close to the Polish border. The owners, the family of Mr Vasyl, spent several years saving the old house from ruin and have turned it into a living centre of Boyko culture with guided tours, workshops, festivals and traditional food. Next door are the Prozori Boiky glamping cabins and safari tents, a small petting zoo and hot tubs, which have made the place a notable stop on the Boyko ethno-tourism map.

What it is

Nanashkova Khata is a classic Boyko house in which the living quarters and the farm rooms stand under one roof. Inside, the everyday life of a family from the first half of the 20th century has been recreated: a clay stove, a cradle, a dish rack with earthenware, a weaving loom, embroidered towels, icons and rugs. The host shows visitors around himself and explains how the Boykos lived, what they did in winter and summer, how they cooked and how they kept their feast days. This is not a state museum with glass cases but a private family homestead where you can get close to the objects and hear the stories from people who grew up here.

In September 2026 the homestead hosted the ethno-festival “Nanashko hoikaie”, marking the centenary of the local Prosvita reading society, with workshops in pottery, weaving, wreath-making and Boyko block printing, old folk instruments and Boyko hospitality. Keep an eye on the homestead’s page: festivals are held here regularly.

What to do with children and the whole family

  • Guided tour of the homestead: the Boyko house, old tools, clothing and customs.
  • Petting zoo: lambs, rabbits and other farm animals that children can feed and stroke.
  • Knyshi baking workshop: traditional Boyko pastries that everyone tastes afterwards.
  • Sopilka (folk flute) workshop and painting workshop for groups and families by prior booking.
  • Clay modelling and potter’s-wheel sessions for adults and children in groups, arranged through the reception.
  • Boyko cuisine: home-cooked dishes in the homestead café; guests’ reviews especially praise the food and breakfasts.
  • Hot tubs with a view of the mountains and the river, a fine end to the day.

The local initiative Boyko Mandry also includes Nanashkova Khata in its “I am in Boykivshchyna” tour together with old wooden churches of the surrounding villages; the programme, length and price are agreed individually.
