Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, Rozluzh

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is one of the most famous monuments of the beautiful town of Rozluch, Turka district, Lviv region. It was built in 1876 in a typical Boikos style on the site of an ancient wooden church. The village church was first mentioned in sources in 1534. This year, on October 22, Sambir starosta Stanislav Odrovonzh sold a plot of land for a church in Borysova Volia (old name Rozlucha). It belongs to the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.

Previously, an older church stood on this site, known since 1534. It was in this year that Sambir starosta Stanislav Odrovonzh sold a plot of land for the church. The parish received the privilege in 1666. In 1733, a three-story wooden church of the Boyko type was built on the site of the old one.

In 1783 the first church burned down, and in 1875 the second church suffered the same fate. Instead, in 1876, master craftsman Havrylo Roman built a new church. Josef Hammer, the head of an industrial company in Vienna and owner of forests in the vicinity of Rozluch, contributed to the construction. He provided the building material for the church free of charge. The first bells were purchased in 1876. During World War I, the Austrian military took two bells for the needs of the army. In 1926, the community purchased the missing bells. During the Second World War, people who had learned from the bitter experience of the previous war hid the bells from the Germans and thus preserved them. After the war ended, they were dug up and installed in the bell tower, where they remain today.

The church is located on a hill in the western part of the village, near its center. It is surrounded by old linden trees. The wooden three-story building consists of three square volumes located along the northeast-southwest axis.
The main log cabins are crowned with pyramidal tent tops with five creases over the nave and four over the altar and the chancel.
The church is encircled by a wide porch, supported by the crowns of the log cabins, under which a small vestry is hidden, adjacent to the altar from the north. To the west, a glazed porch is attached to the Babynets, which hangs over the entrance, under the eaves.
The walls of the church's narthex are covered with wooden clapboard, while the ceilings and ceiling are covered with boards. The four-tiered carved and gilded iconostasis is contemporary with the church.
To the west of the church is a wooden, two-tiered, square bell tower covered with a tent pyramidal roof. It was built simultaneously with the church. The entrance to the church grounds is organized in the form of a cross-shaped structure, completed by three pyramidal tops of the superstructure above the gate - my addition.

In addition to the church of the Virgin Mary, Rozluch is considered an excellent resort with a landscape reserve, mineral waters and architectural monuments. Here is preserved wooden church of St. Francis of the 16th century.
