Gedzio Park of Legends, Yaremche

Yaremche, Ivano-Frankivsk region, Ukraine

Gedzio Park of Legends is a fairy-tale theme park in Yaremche, a few steps from the Probiy waterfall. It is designed as the imaginary settlement of Obinor, home to hobbits, elves, gnomes and wizards, ruled by “Mr Gedzio Burbel” — the character who also runs the park’s social media. Opened in 2023, it quickly became one of the most popular family spots in the Yaremche area, rated 4.5 on Google Maps from more than 1,300 reviews. Visitors often call it the “Ukrainian Hobbiton”, and with good reason: there are round-door houses that seem to grow out of green hillocks, pointy-roofed elven cottages and countless small details worth a closer look.

What to see

The park stretches along a rocky slope above the Prut river and ponds with swans. You can step inside almost every house: cosy hobbit rooms, a Harry Potter–style library, an elven cave with glowing “magic” orbs, a wand shop, a room full of shells and minerals, and Gedzio’s own residence, presented as a museum of his adventures. At the entrance, for a small extra fee, you can land on the front page of the local “newspaper” and take it home as a souvenir. New photo spots appear every year, and in autumn the grounds are decorated with pumpkins.

  • fairy-tale hobbit and elf houses you can explore inside;
  • costumes for photos — dress up as an elf or a sorceress;
  • costumed guides who lead tours and tell the stories of Obinor;
  • a QR-code quest, a wishing stone and a magic tree hung with crystal beads;
  • a small mini zoo with black sheep, rabbits, parrots and a porcupine;
  • playgrounds, swings, a pub-style tavern, a pastry shop and a souvenir store.

Things to do with children

The park suits families with children aged roughly three to twelve best, although Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fans of any age happily spend hours here. Little ones peek through fairy-tale windows, hunt for quest clues, swing and feed the animals, while parents take photos — almost every corner is designed as a photo set. Several times a year the park hosts celebrations such as Hobbit Day, when guests come in costume, and it also organises children’s birthday parties. Regulars recommend coming in the morning or on a weekday: at weekends and in high season there can be queues at the most popular houses. Some paths are covered with gravel, so pushing a stroller is not always easy.

The park is right in the centre of Yaremche, a 15–20-minute walk from the railway station or bus station. Head for the Probiy waterfall and the souvenir market next to it: walk down towards the Prut and along the market stalls — the entrance is right there.
