The Church of the Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva Pyatnitsa, Sheshory

The picturesque village of Sheshory is located in Ivano-Frankivsk region. Here you can fully experience the flavor of the local population, the spirit of history and original Hutsul culture.

The wooden church of St. Paraskeva - one of the oldest cultural and religious monuments Sheshory. It was built and opened for parishioners in 1874. During the years of Soviet rule, the church suffered from the inattention of the leadership, and repair and restoration work was practically not carried out. After returning to the bosom of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the 90s of the last century, it underwent numerous restoration works. The iconostasis was restored, and attempts were made to renovate the facade.

Today, it is quite difficult to see the original beauty of the wooden church, as the local community covered the facade with special sheets of tin, the wooden frames of the church windows were replaced by modern plastic counterparts. Unfortunately, this has practically destroyed the authentic beauty of the church, which is very upsetting for many visitors and guests of the church.

The Church of the Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva Friday is a functioning wooden church in the village of Sheshory. An architectural monument of national importance No. 1181, it belongs to the typical works of the Hutsul school of folk wooden architecture of the second half of the XIX century. The parish belongs to the Kosiv Deanery of the Kolomyia Diocese of the OCU. Patronal feast: October 27 (St. Paraskevia) and July 15 (the Position of the Honorable Robe of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Vlacherna).

The church is located southwest of the village center, on the left bank of the Pistynka River. It was built in 1873 on the site of the previous wooden church, which was destroyed by fire in 1864. It was dedicated in 1875. It was painted in the 1890s. It belonged to the UAOC. After the Unification Council of the Ukrainian Orthodox Churches in St. Sophia Cathedral, the parish joined the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. On July 19, 2020, His Beatitude Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine led the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva Friday.

The church is wooden, small in size, five-story, one-story, cruciform in plan with an elongated nave. The walls of the church are covered with tin over the dome. Near the church there are two wooden bell towers: an old two-tiered one, built simultaneously with the church, and a new one.

In the village of Sheshory there are beautiful Silver Falls, and ethnic music festivals are held.
