Kosivskyi Huk waterfall
Kosivskyi Huk is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Ukrainian Carpathians (in the Pokutsko-Bukovyna Carpathians), a geological natural monument of local importance. It is located on the Rybnytsia River, within the city of Kosova, Ivano-Frankivsk region. At the intersection of resistant rocks, the Rybnytsia River forms several picturesque cascades with a total height of about 2.5 m. The Rybnytsia River originates from two streams flowing down from the slopes of the Igrets and Pysanyi Kamen at an altitude of about 800 m. Its length is 54 km and the basin area is 276 square km. The flow rate varies between 0.5-1 m/sec.
Kosivskyi Huk is surrounded by picturesque rocks. It is easy to find a place to relax near the waterfall. In addition, the Kosivsky Huk waterfall is very conveniently located: just a couple of hundred meters from the road that most travelers use to go deep into the Carpathians by car, in the direction of Kosmach or Sheshory, or to Verkhovyna or Kryvorivnia. After all, the Carpathians are beautiful everywhere, and every corner has its own wonders.
The Kosiv waterfalls, or "huks," consist of two parts: the actual huk, the waterfall, and the "shum," the part of the river where the water falls from above, forming a boiling cauldron covered with a stormy white foam, the shum. "Shum" is also the rapids where water runs down the sloping rock, making noise. In 2010, it became part of the Hutsulshchyna Regional Landscape Park.
The Kosivsky Huk is a series of waterfalls and large rapids on the Rybnytsia River on the southwestern outskirts of Kosiv, between the Ostryi and Stizhky mountains. The largest "First Hook" is located near the Carpathian Dawns tourist center. It was formed by the erosion of softer layers, including shale and sandstone. 50-60 years ago, water fell from a height of 2-3 meters from a wall slightly inclined in the direction of the current; there was a so-called "noise" nearby - a high threshold. Nowadays, only a large rapids and a number of smaller ones are left upstream. On the right bank, the rocks reach a height of 15 meters. The "second Huk" is located 300-400 meters away in the direction of the mountains.
In the 1930s, a magnificent pavilion with a buffet, a dance hall with an orchestra, and a changing room were built on the hill. Below the pavilion, a station with kayaks was built, where one could swim to the pleasant music of the orchestra. After the war, the Hook was abandoned and the pavilion burned down. To this day, a beautiful chapel has been preserved on the right bank of the Rybnytsia River, it is located on the place where the famous Ukrainian writer Ivan Franko liked to rest.
On the banks of the Rybnytsia River near the huk there is a recreation center "Baika", a sanatorium "Carpathian Dawns", as well as a large number of private estates that are ready to receive tourists all year round. Guki is a favorite vacation spot for locals and tourists who come from all over Ukraine and abroad. It is at the waterfalls that strong jets of spring water provide a healing full-body massage.
A great view of the Kosivskyi Huk waterfall opens from the observation deck, where you can take many beautiful photos as a souvenir. Just above the Skeli tract (Ivan Franko Street), a stream flows into the Rybnytsia River, interesting because there are at least five picturesque waterfalls on its course, the average height of which is about two meters. They are especially full-flowing in the rainy season.
