Rocky ridge

It is up to 700 meters high and covered with forest. It is a natural monument of local importance. At the foot of the ridge is the Rybnytsia River. The ridge has its name from the large number of sandstone stones and rocks. It is located almost in Kosovo and is a very popular route. The route itself is easy, suitable for both adults and children.

Flora of the ridge: Juniper, rose hips, blackberries, quinceañeras. Also here you can find the Red Book nesting bird and purple bark, forest orchids. Birds include the variegated woodpecker, jay, hazel grouse, and nuthatch. You can also find a nimble lizard, hares, roe deer, fox, wild boar and deer.

You can get to the ridge from Kosiv and from the village of Horody. On the way up, you can see a small but unfortunately dilapidated pond, and people said that there were fish there. As you climb higher, you will see many stone placers, and at the top there are giant boulders. In the 19th century, they were torn apart, so they are smaller than on the Protyatky or Ternoshory. In winter, the stones are covered with snow and invisible to the eye - so we recommend going in the warm season! The mountain has a mysterious atmosphere, especially in the fog.

Interesting facts

A hundred years ago, the ridge was completely bald, and the views from the top were fabulous. Even at that time, the ridge was popular.

Every year on October 14, the Heroes of Ukraine and Kosovo are honored. On the road is the grave of a young UPA soldier, Ivan Hrechuk. Ivan and his comrade fought an unequal battle on the mountain under the forest, fighting for 5 hours. Ivan, wounded but still alive, was burned alive. The comrade was caught and taken to the NKVD (People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the USSR) department, which was located on the territory of the modern Kosiv gymnasium. However, he was able to escape and kill the traitor who betrayed the location of their bunker.

There is a legend that a battle between Ukrainians and Turks took place on the ridge. The victory was on the side of the Ukrainians. Back then, the river under the rock was red with blood.
