Bridge over the Prut River, Yaremche

Yaremche attracts tourists with its landscapes, healing springs, culture, and much more. Today, the town can be reached by car or bus, and at the beginning of the last century, there was a railway bridge here.

This structure, built in 1894-1996, was located on 63.8/9 km of the Stanislav - Voronenka line and connected the two banks of the Prut River. The unusual bridge was designed by Lviv professor Zygmunt Kulki, and built by Stanisław Ravych-Kosinski. The bridge was unusual because of its 65-meter span, which was the first experience of such bridge construction in Europe. Since then, bridge architects in Europe have been using this bridge as a standard of engineering art.

The bridge was rebuilt twice. In 1917, the Russian army, retreating, blew up a 12-meter span, and then partially blew up the largest span, a 65-meter span. In order to restore the railroad connection necessary for the transportation of the Austrian army as soon as possible, an 18-meter-long metal structure was thrown across the bridge. Restoration of the largest arch began in 1925.

In 1944, the bridge in Yaremche was destroyed by the German military. However, the Soviet government later rebuilt it. It was just a reinforced concrete structure. Not a trace of the former beautiful bridge remained.

In addition to the bridge over the Prut River, in Yaremche you can visit the rocks of the national hero Oleksa Dovbush and make a wish by touching his "heart" with your hand, as well as go to the Probiy and Maiden's Tears waterfalls.

Getting there: The bridge over the Prut River in Yaremche is located parallel to Svobody Street, not far from the local souvenir market.
