Oleksa Novakivskyi Art and Memorial Museum

The building is very interesting, made in the Neo-Gothic style, the Romanticism trend. The incredible heritage of the talented artist, presented in the museum, is worthy of attention. A small but very pleasant and cozy museum. A unique sensual world and manner. No reproduction will convey the power of the impact of the works, so it is worth seeing the originals. If you are an art lover, you will not regret visiting this place, interesting facts and stories about one of the most famous artists of Lviv region.
It's worth visiting not only for the exhibits, but also to learn a lot about the activities of the elite Ukrainian intelligentsia of that time. We recommend everyone to visit it. Sometimes they organize interesting evenings. The building, once known as the palace of the Polish artist Jan Stika, became an iconic foundation of Ukrainian culture after it was acquired by Andrey Sheptytsky. In 1913, the Ukrainian painter Oleksa Nowakiwsky, who arrived in Lviv from Krakow at Sheptytsky's invitation, settled here. The artist's studio was located on the second floor of the house, in a spacious hall.
In 1923-1935, the Oleksa Novakivskyi Art School, the first artistic educational center for young people in western Ukraine, operated in this building. In March 1972, in honor of the 100th anniversary of Oleksa Novakivskyi's birth, an art-memorial museum was opened in the former house. The exposition represents the main stages of the artist's career. On the second floor you can see the artist's paintings and feel the atmosphere of his creative laboratory. In 2016, the museum's exposition was supplemented with a collection of works by O. Novakivskyi, which has historical and memorial significance. On May 23, 2016, the museum hosted a presentation of the artist's works from the collection of the Slovak folklorist and head of the Association of Ukrainians in Slovakia Mykola Mushynka, which his wife Magda donated to the Andriy Sheptytsky National Museum in Lviv.
