Syrovarnia ("The Cheese Dairy") is a family restaurant in Lviv with its own craft cheese dairy inside. It is located at 21 Shevchenka Street, in the Velyka Brytaniia residential complex, a 15–20-minute walk from Rynok Square. The idea is simple and delicious: soft Italian-style cheeses are made here every morning and reach your plate within hours. The team calls it Lviv's first cheese-dairy restaurant, and its story — opening during lockdown and keeping going through the war — has been covered by Ukrainska Pravda Life, The Village Ukraine and Tvoie Misto.
A cheese dairy in full view of guests
The highlight for travellers is the chance to watch elastic mozzarella being stretched from warm curd and burrata being formed — a pouch of mozzarella filled with stracciatella. The dairy is open to view and you can follow the process right from the dining room. Milk arrives every morning from a farm near Lviv; according to the makers, the cheeses contain no antibiotics or artificial additives — only milk, starter culture, salt and the cheesemaker's hands. In June 2026 the Syrovarnia team set a Ukrainian record: the largest ball of craft mozzarella, officially registered at 7.98 kg.
Cheeses to taste and buy
- Stracciatella — soft strands of mozzarella in cream, the house favourite, added to pasta and even to borscht.
- Burrata — the signature cheese, cut open right at the table.
- Mozzarella — fresh balls for salads and pizza.
- Ricotta, halloumi and cream cheeses with truffle, chilli or garlic.
- Caciotta — a semi-hard cheese with fenugreek, caraway, herbs or sun-dried tomatoes.
- House-made butter and parmesan caramel.
You can taste the cheese in dishes — the menu features a signature cheese soup, pasta, Lviv-style cutlet and burrata served in different ways — and ask for cheese to be grated over any dish free of charge. The shop inside sells cheese by weight: stracciatella costs UAH 88 per 100 g, burrata UAH 91.30 per 100 g and semi-hard cheeses from UAH 71.50 per 100 g (website prices, October 2026; check current prices on site). There is a separate wholesale price list for restaurants and cafés.
Who will enjoy it
Syrovarnia is a good stop for anyone building a "craft map" of Lviv: after chocolate, coffee and beer, here you can see another living craft — cheesemaking. It is a family-friendly place with a cosy interior of green tiles, wood and a neon sheep on the wall. The restaurant hosts banquets and themed evenings, and Saturday fairs of local and veteran-owned brands are sometimes held next to it. The cuisine is mostly European, so this is not an ethnic koliba but a modern venue where fresh cheese is the star.
