Kortumova Hora and its park are a good place to relax and have a date, one of the most picturesque places in Lviv. It is located in the western part, almost in the center of the city. The height of the mountain is 374 meters, and the top offers an incredible view of the surroundings of Lviv. In 1672, the park served as a camp for Hetman Doroshenko's army, and in the 20th century it was used as a concentration camp and ghetto. The mountain is protected by law, and Lviv residents and guests of the city do not miss the opportunity to admire this park and enjoy the view from the mountain. Since 1984, it has had the status of a geological natural monument. The total area is 64 hectares. Kortumova's feature is an iron staircase with a memorial at the top.

Facts.

  • The name of the mountain and the forest park comes from the surname of the governor of Galicia, Ernst von Kortum, who laid out a garden in his estate, which later became part of the forest park
  • In 1672 there was a camp of Hetman Doroshenko
  • In 1939, battles between the Polish army and the Wehrmacht took place over the mountain, and on September 21, Lviv fell to the Red Army
  • During the Second World War, there was the Janowska concentration camp
  • Near Kortum Mountain there is a shooting range, a stadium, a cemetery and a sports base for summer sports of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine
  • The northern part of the mountain is also called Kuperman Mountain, after one of Kleparov's landowners who had land plots under it in the 19th century.
