House-museum of the movie "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors", Verkhovyna

The museum was founded and opened in 2000 in the Hutsul hut of Petro and Yevdokiya Soriuks, where the famous film director Sergei Parajanov lived for seven months during the filming of his 1963-1964 movie. The main activities of the museum include screening the film and learning about the history of filming the movie masterpiece Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors. The house is located in the village of Zhabievskyi Potik on the outskirts of Verkhovyna.

The museum has the following expositions: on the life and work of prominent people; on everyday life and ethnography; on historical and architectural heritage. During the filming of the movie Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (gold medals at the Southern Cross and Thessaloniki festivals, British Film Academy award for best foreign film), the following people lived in this house In 1963-1964, the film's director Sergei Parajanov lived here. The director himself wanted to live here. He admitted that this way he was able to better feel the flavor of the Hutsul region, learn the traditions and be saturated with the power of nature. That is why the movie turned out to be so interesting. The film's creative team also spent time here: the cinematographer Yuriy Illienko, the artist Heorhiy Yakutovych, the actors Ivan Mykolaychuk, Larysa Kadochnikova and others.

Prykarpattia is a region with an unusually beautiful nature. Dense forests cover the mighty mountains. The spirit of magic and ancestral secrets is everywhere here. Many Ukrainian writers have repeatedly described the splendor and mysticism of these lands. The museum of the movie Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors was opened in this amazing place.
The museum exhibition presents things related to the movie. An interesting exhibit is the wedding gugli, which the main character of the film Ivan (Ivan Mykolaychuk) wore. There are photos from the movie on the walls. The house museum also has authentic Hutsul clothes and household items. For a fee, you can try on a Hutsul costume and take photos.
You will be met at the museum by the keepers of the relics. Museum workers are so in love with their work and their land that their tour gives you goosebumps. Visitors are given the opportunity to watch the movie Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors and learn about the history of its creation. Then you can more thoroughly examine all the proposed expositions. The following exhibitions are on display in the house-museum: the ethnographic heritage of the Hutsul region, Hutsul household items, and the life and work of prominent people.
The museum is very interesting and unusual. Visiting is possible only by appointment. The average ticket price with a guided tour is 40 hryvnias. For a fee, you can try on a Hutsul costume and take photos.

Entrance fees: 20 UAH for adults, 15 UAH for pupils and students. The price includes a photo in costume.
Go to Verkhovyna by bus from Ivano-Frankivsk, get off in the center, then take a taxi or make an appointment. By car - take the H-09 highway through Ivano-Frankivsk to Tatariv. In the village of Tatariv, follow the signs to Kosiv (highway P-24) and drive to the village of Verkhovyna. In the village you can arrange a meeting with a guide.
