The Holy Cross Cathedral is the most famous and significant Christian church in Uzhhorod. The ideological inspirer of its construction was the local count Janos H. Druget. In 1640, he invited experienced Jesuit monks to realize his plans.

The construction of the church lasted 6 years. Since 1773 the cathedral began to belong to the Greek Catholic diocese. The interior of the building at that time was made in the Rococo style and painted by craftsmen of the Transcarpathian region.

Today the cathedral combines the features of two styles - neo-baroque and classicism. It got this look after the reconstruction in 1878. The Holy Cross Cathedral has become a real spiritual home and heart of the city for the locals.

The first thing that catches your eye when you see the cathedral is its height, the predominance of light colors in the design, and its monumentality. At the same time, the cathedral building seems light and graceful in comparison to other buildings of this time.

Three-tiered domes with chimes, red marble staircases and a portico with columns make it simply unique. No connoisseur of high art can pass by such a masterpiece of architecture.
