The Chorgiv spring in Velyka Kopanya is called healing for a reason. Its water is one of the purest in all of Ukraine, filled with many chemical elements and minerals, including the rather rare and very beneficial selenium for both women's and men's health. Scientists associate the phenomenon of the village of Velyka Kopanya – an incredibly large number of twins and triplets born here – with its high selenium concentration.

No one knows the exact time of the formation of the Chorgiv spring, although it has been known for a long time. Since the founding of the village in the 15th century, merchants and travelers quenched their thirst with the cool water from the stream. The water body got its name from the Hungarian word "chorgov", which translates to "waterfall" in Ukrainian. Today, a unique concrete chapel has been built around the spring, decorated inside with flowers and icons. Local residents sell forest berries and mushrooms nearby.

Thanks to the unique spring water, Velyka Kopanya is known as the Ukrainian capital of twins – approximately 70 pairs have been born here among a population of 4,000. Because of this, the village has been included in the Book of Records of Ukraine. Interestingly, the consumption of Chorgiv water only promotes the birth of twins; there have been no triplets born in the village so far.

Chorgiv is famous not only as a healing spring but also as extremely clean. The water here is 22 times cleaner than the average in Ukraine. Additionally, it is enriched with silver, which allows it to retain freshness for a long time without spoiling. Therefore, people come here specifically to collect water and consume it at home. A sip of cool water from the Chorgiv spring will fill your body with beneficial elements such as zinc, iron, manganese, selenium, nickel, copper, chromium, molybdenum, titanium, zirconium, vanadium, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, zinc, silicon, and silver.

Chorgiv Spring with the purest water in Ukraine

Among all types of springs in the Transcarpathia region (geyser, fresh, mineralized, saline, thermal, cold), the Chorgiv spring belongs to the system of fresh mineral water springs. The natural spring water from Chorgiv is a transparent, colorless, soft liquid (hardness 0.55 mg-eq/dm³), odorless, and pleasant to taste. Among macroelements, the highest content is of calcium ions (6.43 mg/l). Magnesium ions are present in relatively lower concentrations. The cations of alkali metals – sodium and potassium are represented in relatively insignificant concentrations. Among anions, bicarbonates dominate, while silicon is present in relatively significant concentrations, whereas sulfates, chlorides, and nitrates are present in much smaller concentrations. The water contains important microelements for the human body such as zinc, iron, and manganese. Nickel, copper, chromium, and molybdenum are present in relatively lower concentrations. Transitional elements found include titanium, zirconium, and vanadium. The water is characterized by weak acidity.

The spring is located in the western part of the village along the regional road, not far from the city of Vynogradiv.

Velyka Kopanya does not have direct transport connections, so you can get here either by your own car, following the M23 highway from Berehove through Vynogradiv, or by taxi from the district center. The journey from Vynogradiv takes no more than 10 minutes.
