Verkhniy Yaseniv is a village, the center of the village council, located in the Carpathians on the banks of Cheremosh, 12 km from the district center, 45 km from the Vorokhta railway station. The population is 1303 people. The villages of Bukovets, Rivnia and Cheretiv are subordinated to the village council.
The village was founded in 1686. Until 1922 it was known as Yaseniv Horishnyi, and since 1922 it has been called Yaseniv-Hurnyi. Many local residents are wood and metal carvers. The village has an eight-year school and 4 elementary schools, 2 clubs, 3 libraries, 4 medical centers, a maternity hospital, 4 shops; 480 residential buildings were built.
Written sources indicate that Verkhnii Yaseniv was founded in 1739. A native of the village I. After the death of Oleksa Dovbush, in 1745, I. Boichuk led the movement of the Carpathian opryshky. Boychuk's unit participated in the Haidamak movement on the Right Bank of Ukraine. At the end of the 19th century, the major landowner in the village was the Society for Forest Fruits (Vienna), and its predecessor was the Strasher family.
The last molfar of the Carpathians, Mykhailo Nechai, lived in Verkhniy Yaseniv. On July 24-26, the village of Verkhniy Yaseniv (Zapidok tract) hosted the Cheremosh Fest eco-tourism festival. On August 23, 2015, Bishop Julian (Hatala) of Kolomyia and Kosiv consecrated the Church of St. Sophia the Wisdom of God in Verkhniy Yaseniv. The village's landmark is the wooden Trinity Church, built in 1882. Also memorable is the cross near the church, which was erected on the occasion of the abolition of serfdom.
Another interesting event is the annual folklore festival "Polonynske Summer", which is celebrated in late June.
