Vasyl Kassian Art and Memorial Museum, Sniatyn

The Vasyl Kasiyan Art and Memorial Museum presents the life and work of academician and People's Artist of Ukraine V.I. Kasiyan, who founded the artistic school of Ukrainian graphics of the 20th century. The museum was inaugurated on December 15, 1982. An artist and graphic artist, Vasyl Kasiyan was a prominent scientist, academician (since 1947 he was a full member of the Academy of Arts), art critic and theorist of Ukrainian and world art, and an active public figure.

Features of the Vasyl Kassian Museum

The exposition is housed in five rooms, two of which reflect the artist's career, and the other three contain graphic works by Vasyl Kassian and his students and heirs. The exposition also includes personal belongings of the prominent figure: books by an art critic and books about the artist, his personal library, manuscripts and objects he used. The museum building houses a huge collection of photographs and documentary materials that tell about the life and work of Vasyl Kasiyan.

Vasyl Kasiyan was born on January 1, 1896, in a large family in the village of Mykulintsi in Ivano-Frankivsk region (now a suburb of Sniatyn). He received his primary education at the Sniatyn seven-year and real schools, showing remarkable abilities in drawing. After the First World War, he studied at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts. The Prague period (1920-1926) was one of the brightest in the artist's work, bringing him European recognition and establishment in professional art. Returning to Ukraine (February 1927), he began his pedagogical work as a professor at the Kyiv Art Institute.

Location of the Vasyl Kasyan Museum

The museum is located in a one-story building with an original wooden terrace. The entrance to the museum building is clearly visible from the street. The width of the central wooden door with a threshold is sufficient for a wheelchair. The corridor also has a wide area for turning the wheelchair. Moving around the halls is convenient, the interior doors are wide and without thresholds. In front of the museum there is a monument to Vasyl Kasyan. Three stairs lead to the monument on three sides. On the territory of the museum there is a bus stop equipped for people with disabilities.

Getting to the Vasily Kassian Museum

To get to the museum, you can use public transport: take a train to Kolomyia or Chernivtsi, and then take a bus to Sniatyn. By car, take the H-10 highway to Sniatyn. After driving along the main street to the Cheremshyna Museum, turn into the street opposite the museum, which will lead directly to the location of the Vasyl Kasiyan Museum.

  • Entrance fees: adult - 10 UAH, children - 7 UAH.
  • Cost of the tour: 50 UAH for adults, 30 UAH for children and students.

The museum is located in a one-story building with an original wooden terrace. The museum building has a clearly visible entrance from the street. The width of the central door (if two parts of it are opened) is sufficient for a wheelchair to pass through. The door is wooden with a threshold (5-6 cm). The corridor behind the front door is wide enough to turn the wheelchair around. Movement in the exhibition halls is convenient; the interior doors are wide and have no thresholds. In front of the museum there is a monument to Cassian. Three descending steps lead to the monument from three sides.

There is a bus stop in front of the museum, from which there is no unimpeded access to the museum entrance (a small asphalt rise is needed).
