In Prykarpattia, a snowstorm happened on November 12-13, 2016. For some people, the morning of the 13th was very pleasant, while for others it was a continuation of the working week. And public utilities were not prepared to remove so much snow from roads and sidewalks.
What has been happening on the roads since Sunday can hardly be described in human terms. The TSN service had an adventure in the Carpathians and showed what was happening there.
Villages without electricity and cut off by snowdrifts, impassable roads and fallen trees. Heavy snow has caused damage in the Carpathian region. More than 50 centimeters fell in one day. Everyone is involved in the disaster response: the authorities, utilities, power engineers, rescuers... They are working around the clock. Recovery efforts are hampered by snow drifts on the roads, and it is very difficult for vehicles to get to the accident sites. Fire and rescue units of the State Emergency Service in the region freed 89 vehicles from snow drifts over the day. Traffic police posts are working on the roads. A round-the-clock duty has been organized. The authorities recommend that residents of the city and the district refrain from traveling and stay at their place of residence.
Schools closed and transportation paralyzed: sharp winds and sleet took Ukraine by surprise. Ukrainians were once again unprepared for the arrival of winter. The situation is particularly difficult in the West: blizzards that have been going on since nightfall have paralyzed traffic in cities and on highways, and hundreds of cars are stuck in snowdrifts. In more than five hundred villages and towns, people are without electricity. Schools have been canceled in the Carpathian region and Bukovina, and most bus services have been canceled in Khmelnytsky and Ternopil regions.
