Speed Fun rodelbahn (mountain coaster), Bukovel

Speed Fun rodelbahn is a rail-mounted mountain coaster in Bukovel, Ukraine's first all-weather ride of its kind, built by the German company Wiegand. Unlike ordinary sledges, the sleds run along a metal track, locked onto the rail, so you can ride in winter, in summer and even after rain. It is one of those things to do in Bukovel that children, teenagers and adults all enjoy: you control the speed yourself, and the track winds among spruces with banked turns, bends and small dips.

How the ride works

The track is 1,500 metres long in total, with the fast descent taking up about 1,000 metres. First the sled and rider are pulled uphill by a 500-metre Wiegand lift, climbing about 170 metres — the ride up through the forest already offers fine views. Then the descent begins: banked curves, turns and «jumps» over the waves of the track add a thrill.

• sleds carry one or two people;
• you set the speed yourself with the brake lever — race at full speed or go down more gently;
• a braking system keeps a safe distance between sleds;
• the lift starts near the upper residential complex, next to the top station of lift No. 2.

For families with children

The rodelbahn is a great way to show children the mountains from a different angle. For younger kids the «Tandem» ticket works best: the child rides with an adult in the same sled, and the adult controls the speed. The tandem limit is 150 kg total weight. Exact age and minimum height rules for riding alone are not given on the resort website, so check at the ticket desk before you ride. In winter dress warmly and take gloves — you feel the wind on the descent. In summer the track runs in the shade of the forest, so it is pleasant even on hot days.

There is a photo service: a camera on the track captures your descent, and you can find the shot by date and approximate ride time via the link on the attraction's page.

One ride including the lift takes only a few minutes, so the rodelbahn combines easily with a walk on the slopes or other resort activities. At weekends and in peak season there may be queues at the start, so the most comfortable time is the morning, right after opening.

Prices and opening hours

According to Bukovel's official website (October 2026):

• standard ticket — UAH 1,000;
• «Tandem» ticket (up to 150 kg) — UAH 1,500.

The ride operates daily from 10:00 to 18:00 (Google Maps says until 17:55, so plan your last ride earlier). The rodelbahn runs all year, but it may be paused in severe weather, during maintenance breaks between seasons or during air-raid alerts — check the current status on bukovel.com or call the information line 0 800 500 818.

How to get there

The ride is on the slope of Mount Bukovel, near the top station of lift No. 2, above the central part of the resort in Polianytsia village. From Ivano-Frankivsk it is about 110 km by car via Nadvirna, Yaremche, Mykulychyn and Tatariv; the nearest railway station is Tatariv-Bukovel. The free Bukovel Bus runs around the resort; from the stops and car parks by lift No. 2 you can walk to the start, following signs to the upper residence.
