Derenivska Kupil has a long history and is shrouded in mysterious legends. Today, we learn about it from letters, notes, graphic drawings, archival documents, ethnographic collections, and private collections. The materials show the chronology of the history of the Derenivka area, tell about the people who rested and were treated here, and confirm the healing properties of the “slatin water”.The first documented mention dates back to 1582. From it, we learn that Miklós Korlat, a magnate from the village of Khlmets, is suing the Druget family for the right to own the forests and the healing bath in the Derenivka area, numerous written mentions of which date back to the 17th century. Starting from December 19, 1634, local priest Daniil Serednyansky in his letters refers to the bath as “Zhalobni Derenets”, “Derenets zholobobornyi”, “Derec serebrena vaserovna”, thus confirming its healing properties. In the records of the Habsburg dynasty dated 1692, the Derenivka water is mentioned as “Derenus Zilbers wasser”. This name is indicated on the ancient coat of arms of the bath. During the war of 1705 between Transylvanian prince Ferenc II Rákóczi and the Habsburgs, “Slatino” (as the resort was called) was completely destroyed. But the life-giving water was so desired that the bath was quickly rebuilt.A graphic from 1829 with the inscription “Derenivska bath, mocharovna, travarnia N. Slatino” confirms the history of the resort, and letters mentioning the bath (“Solotvynska health resort”, “Zolotvynska bathing mocharovna”, “Sribliana bath”, “Slatin golden water”) testify to the healing properties of Derenivka water. In the first half of the 20th century, Derenivka became a cult resort visited by famous European families. Despite Baden-Baden and Karlovy Vary, they choose the amazing landscapes and healing water of Derenivka. During this period, science paid attention to the phenomenon of Derenivka water. In 1935, scientist František Vizner in his research “Mineral Springs of Subcarpathian Rus” writes about Derenivka water: “As a scientist, I have the honor to personally recommend it for use to both local residents and all citizens of the Czechoslovak Republic.” During Soviet times, there was a sanatorium of union subordination “Kooperator” in the area, where people came from all over the USSR.Today, the former glory of Derenivka is being revived before our eyes, and new life is bustling. For four centuries, it has been part of six states, changing architecture and infrastructure. However, its eternal values remain unchanged: an ecologically clean space and healing water.By the way, an interesting fact: where does the name “Derenivka” come from? Once, the area was home to dogwood – “deren”. Hence the name!
