Pharmacy-museum "Under the Black Eagle"
The oldest existing pharmacy in Lviv has been turned into a museum where you can see the pharmacy equipment used by medieval pharmacists. The pharmacy-museum operates like a regular pharmacy, with pharmacy utensils, machines of different ages, scales, herbalists, and herbaria. You can examine ancient stone mortars used to prepare ointment or crush dried plants. It's as if the spirit of health, longevity, and even immortality is welcoming you there. People believed in this because this belief was a psychological cure for illness. In the rooms, you can see unique equipment from different eras: 14th-century amphorae for transporting and storing liquids, a collection of wooden and metal pharmaceutical presses, herb cutters, crucibles, beakers, etc. The most valuable documents on the history of pharmacy from antiquity to the present day are also collected here. A special place is occupied by the original editions of Helen's works from the 14th century. The pharmacy has authentic old prints of dictionaries and recipes from the 18th century. In the pharmacy you can buy a branded medicine - "Iron Wine" - a tonic drink that is sold only here.
- The trading floor. The ceiling is decorated with polychrome paintings made in the early 19th century. The most interesting exhibits in the sales area are pharmaceutical scales.
- Material room. The room contains collections of dishes, old patented medicines, equipment, etc.
- Laboratory. The exhibits introduce the stages of processing plant materials and making medicines from them. There was also a pharmacy kitchen where medicines were made.
- Room of the History of Pharmacy. The room describes the history of pharmacy, the stages of development in Egypt, Greece, and Rome.
- The outbuilding. A wooden gallery with an alchemical laboratory and a library with more than 3,000 books.
- Pharmacy cellars. Large barrels and bottles for storing medical wines are exhibited here.
- The inner courtyard. It is the only object in Lviv where it was possible to recreate the appearance of a wealthy burgher's house. Here you can smell the smell of ancient Lviv.
The Folk Museum is popular with Lviv residents. During the first year of its existence, the museum was visited by up to 6 thousand tourists, and in 1988 - 280 thousand. 15 thousand excursions were conducted.
